Samsung Galaxy phones now double as house keys through a new Digital Home Key feature rolling out this month. The addition transforms Samsung Wallet from a basic credential storage app into an access control hub that handles both vehicles and residential entry.

Built on the Aliro open standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the feature enables interoperability across smart lock brands including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings.

Users can unlock compatible doors by tapping their phone using NFC technology or through hands-free ultra-wideband proximity detection starting in April 2026, depending on hardware support. The system requires biometric authentication or a PIN within Samsung Wallet before granting access. Digital Home Keys are protected by Samsung's Knox security platform and designed to meet EAL6+ certification standards for strong protection against unauthorized use.

"If you lose your phone, you can remotely manage or remove home keys through Samsung Find," according to Samsung's implementation details.

The company also allows key sharing with trusted contacts for temporary access arrangements.

Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key began rolling out in select regions in March 2026 and will expand as more smart lock manufacturers adopt the Aliro standard. The feature works with locks configured through Samsung SmartThings using Matter, the global smart home connectivity protocol.

"Through close collaboration with our partners and in alignment with the Aliro standard, Digital Home Key brings the same level of security and ease Samsung Galaxy users expect from Samsung Wallet to their homes," said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

The expansion follows Samsung's previous digital key integrations with Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota vehicles. With payment cards, boarding passes, IDs, car keys, and now home access all consolidated in one application, Samsung positions Wallet as a centralized destination for everyday credentials rather than just a basic wallet replacement.
