You call a business, a buyer, a service desk, or someone you do not want saving your personal number, and your caller ID shows by default. In the U.S., the fastest fix is still a dialing code, but the better long-term option depends on whether you use an iPhone, Android phone, carrier account, home phone service, Google Voice, or a work calling app. Start with the one-call method, then move to the setting that matches your line.
1. Dial *67 for one private call
Use *67 when you want to block your number for the next regular phone call only. Open the phone Dialer or Keypad, enter *67, enter the phone number, including the area code, then tap Call.
Verified carrier guidance lists this per-call Caller ID Blocking method for supported U.S. mobile and landline service, including Verizon, AT&T Wireless, AT&T Home Phone, T-Mobile, Xfinity Voice, and Spectrum Voice. On a landline, lift the receiver, listen for the dial tone, press *67, wait for the confirmation tones or dial tone, then dial the phone number.
Caller ID Blocking does not hide your number from 911, toll-free or 800 numbers, and some business numbers where the carrier does not block the presentation.
2. Use T-Mobile short codes when they fit your line
Open the phone Dialer, enter *31#1+PhoneNumber, replacing PhoneNumber with the number you are calling, then tap Call. T-Mobile customers have a second documented one-call route through self-service short codes, and you should use it from the T-Mobile device that is placing the call.
T-Mobile documents *31#1+PhoneNumber to hide the name and number for that outgoing call. It also documents #31#1+PhoneNumber to show the name and number on outgoing calls, while its consumer calling page still lists *67 for one-call privacy.
3. Switch off caller ID on iPhone
For ongoing iPhone privacy, use Settings > Apps > Phone > Show My Caller ID, then turn Show My Caller ID off. Open Settings, tap Apps, tap Phone, tap Show My Caller ID, then turn Show My Caller ID off.
Apple says this setting depends on carrier support. If Show My Caller ID is dimmed or missing, contact the carrier that provides the line.
4. Change caller ID on Samsung or Pixel
For Samsung Galaxy, open Phone. Tap More options, the three vertical dots, tap Settings, tap Supplementary services, tap Show your caller ID, then choose Never.
For Pixel or Google Phone app, open Phone. Tap the Menu icon, tap Settings, tap Calling accounts, tap your Carrier or SIM, tap Additional settings, tap Caller ID, then select Hide number.
Android caller ID controls sit inside the phone app when the carrier exposes the setting. Samsung Galaxy phones use a different current path from Pixel and Google Phone app devices.
Samsung notes that hiding caller ID does not hide SMS caller identification.
5. Make blocking permanent through your mobile carrier
Use carrier-level blocking when you want the line to hide outgoing caller ID by default across regular phone calls. The route depends on the mobile provider.
For Verizon mobile in the My Verizon app, tap the top-left Menu, tap Plans & Devices, choose the device, tap View details, tap Block specific services, then turn Caller ID Blocking on.
On the website, go to Manage Blocks, select the line, choose Block Services, tap Add if you are on a smartphone, then turn Caller ID Blocking on under Additional Services. Verizon limits this change to an Account Owner or Account Manager.
For AT&T Wireless, use the phone setting for ongoing blocking. If the device cannot block or display Caller ID for all outgoing calls, contact AT&T and ask to add Caller ID blocking at no additional charge.
For Xfinity Mobile, contact Xfinity chat and ask to enable Caller ID Blocking on the specific Xfinity Mobile line.
Caller ID blocking hides the presentation of your number. It is different from spoofing, which changes the number shown to the person receiving the call.
6. Set privacy on home phone services
For AT&T traditional home phone one call, lift the receiver, listen for dial tone, press *67, wait for confirmation tones or dial tone, then dial the number. For permanent blocking, call 800.288.2020 and request permanent blocking of Caller ID information.
For AT&T Phone or AT&T Phone - Advanced, sign in to the AT&T phone portal with the member ID. Select Features, select Outgoing Calls, expand Hide My Caller ID, toggle it ON or OFF, then select Save.
When Hide My Caller ID is disabled, AT&T documents pressing *82, calling the number, then pressing # to hide caller ID for that single outgoing call.
For AT&T Wireless Home Phone, dial #31# plus the 10-digit number for one call. For all calls, contact AT&T through chat, call 611 from an AT&T wireless phone, call 800.331.0500, or call 800.901.9878 for AT&T Prepaid.
AT&T Wireless Home Phone is offered to current users only and is not available for new activations.
For Xfinity Voice, lift the receiver, listen for dial tone, press *67, wait for the confirmation tone and dial tone, then dial the phone number. Xfinity also documents *82 to disable per-call blocking in its quick reference.
For Spectrum Voice, sign in to VoiceZone. Select Settings, select Privacy, select Block Outbound Caller ID, select On, then select Save.
For one temporary hidden call, dial *67 before the phone number. Home phone services use their own portals, support numbers, and star codes. Pick the one that matches your service name.
7. Hide Google Voice caller ID
Google Voice has its own anonymous caller ID setting, and Google says enabling it on one device hides caller ID on all devices using the same Google Voice account.
On a computer, open Google Voice and sign in. Click Settings, click Calls on the left, then turn on Anonymous caller ID.
In the Google Voice mobile app, open the Google Voice app. Tap Menu, tap Settings, then under Calls, turn on Anonymous caller ID.
For one Google Voice call, open Google Voice. Go to Calls, enter the caller-ID-blocking prefix for the country or region of your Google Voice number, enter the phone number, then click or tap Call.
For a U.S. Google Voice number, use *67 as the prefix.
8. Control caller ID in work calling apps
For Zoom Phone users, sign in to the Zoom web portal. Click Zoom Phone in the side menu, click the Settings tab, then under Outbound Caller ID, select Hide Caller ID.
For RingCentral IP phones, dial *67 before placing the call. Enter the phone number followed by # when prompted.
Business calling apps use account settings and admin policies, so the option you see depends on the service and your permissions.
Zoom says this user-level setting applies to the Zoom desktop client and mobile app, not desk phones. Admins can also control whether extensions are allowed to hide outbound caller ID through Account Management, Account Settings, the Zoom Phone tab, General, and Select Outbound Caller ID, then selecting or clearing the Allow extensions to hide outbound caller ID checkbox and saving.
RingCentral app and Admin Portal caller ID controls let users or admins choose which number appears on outbound calls. RingCentral also documents a Blocked caller ID setting, which makes the recipient see UNKNOWN or ANONYMOUS instead of your number.
Skip old consumer Skype caller ID tutorials. Microsoft says Skype was retired on May 5, 2025, Skype Dial Pad remains only for remaining paid users from the Skype web portal and within Teams Free, and paid Skype features are no longer offered to new customers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I block my number after the call has already started?
No. The researched methods must be used before placing the call, either through a dialing prefix such as *67 or through a caller ID setting that is already enabled.
Is *67 the same as changing my caller ID number?
No. *67 blocks the presentation of your caller ID for supported calls. It does not spoof or replace your number with a different number.
Which option should I use if I only need privacy once?
Use the one-call code first. For most supported U.S. mobile and landline calls, that means dialing *67 before the full phone number.
Does Google Voice anonymous caller ID stay on across devices?
Yes. Google says enabling Anonymous caller ID on one device hides caller ID on all devices using the same Google Voice account.
