Spam calls and unwanted texts are a hassle, but your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 gives you solid tools to shut them down. Once you block a number, calls and messages from them get silently dropped. Here's how to do it across different apps and settings.
Block a Number Right From Recents
Open the Phone app and head to the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block, then tap and hold it. You'll see an option for Block number or Block/report as spam, tap it and confirm. That call won't ring through again.
Block From a Text Thread
Open the Messages app and pull up the conversation from the unwanted number. Tap the three-dot menu in the top corner, then choose Block number. On some versions of Messages you might need to go through Details first. Either way, no more texts from them.
Block a Contact Permanently
If the person is already saved in your contacts, open the Contacts app and find their entry. Tap their name, then the three-dot menu, and select Block contact. This blocks every number tied to that contact.
View Your Blocked List and Unblock
Go to Phone app > Menu > Settings > Block numbers. You'll see every number you've ever blocked. Tap the minus icon next to any entry to unblock them. You can also type in a new number manually at the top to add it to the list.
Turn on Caller ID and Spam Protection
In the Phone app, go to Menu > Settings > Caller ID and spam protection and flip the toggle on. Samsung uses a spam database (from Hiya or Google, depending on your model) to flag potential spam before you even answer. You can also enable Block spam and scam calls right there to auto-reject them.
Block Unknown or Private Numbers
Still inside Phone app > Settings > Block numbers, you'll find a toggle for Block unknown/private numbers or Block calls from unknown numbers. Turn this on, and any call from a number not in your contacts gets silenced. They can still leave a voicemail, though.
Smart Call Identifies Who's Calling
Your Z Flip 7 includes Smart Call, which uses a business directory to show you the caller's name even if they're not saved in your contacts. It also flags suspected spam callers automatically. This feature is bundled with the Caller ID and spam protection toggle, so you're probably already covered.
What Actually Happens When You Block Someone
The blocked caller will hear a busy tone or get sent straight to voicemail, it depends on your carrier. They won't get any notification that they've been blocked. Text messages from them vanish without a trace, and you won't see missed calls from blocked numbers in your call log on most Samsung phones.
Report Spam to Your Carrier
You can help fight spam at the network level by forwarding unwanted texts to 7726 (which spells "SPAM"). Just forward the message to that number, and your carrier will investigate. This works on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and most other US carriers. You'll get a quick confirmation reply.
Third-Party Apps for Extra Filtering
If you want more aggressive blocking, apps like Truecaller and Hiya pull from large databases of known spam numbers. They can auto-block or screen calls before they ever reach you. Both are available on the Play Store and Galaxy Store.
