Getting spam calls on your iPad can be disruptive, especially when you're trying to focus on work or a movie. While your iPad (11th generation) runs iPadOS and shares many features with the iPhone, managing calls works a bit differently since it's not your primary phone. The good news is you have several effective tools to silence and block unwanted callers directly from your tablet.

Silence All Unknown Callers

The most comprehensive way to stop spam is to use the Silence Unknown Callers feature. Open the Settings app on your iPad, then scroll down and tap FaceTime. From there, find and tap the switch next to Silence Unknown Callers to turn it on.

When this is enabled, any incoming FaceTime call from a number not saved in your Contacts, Mail, or Messages will be automatically silenced. The call won't ring, but it will go to voicemail if the caller leaves one, and it will appear in your recent calls list. I'd recommend this if you use your iPad for FaceTime a lot and are getting bombarded with spam.

Block a Specific Number from Recent Calls

If a particular number keeps bothering you, you can block it directly. Open the FaceTime app and tap the Recents tab at the top. Find the unwanted number in your call history and tap the (i) info icon next to it.

On the next screen, you'll see an option labeled Block this Caller. Tap it, and then confirm by tapping Block Contact. This will block all future FaceTime calls and iMessages from that number to your iPad.

Block Someone from Your Contacts List

Sometimes you need to block someone you know. Open the Contacts app and select the person's name. Scroll all the way to the bottom of their contact card and tap Block this Caller.

This action blocks every phone number and email address associated with that contact. It's a definitive step, so just be sure it's what you want to do before confirming.

Manage Your Blocked Contacts List

To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, go to Settings > FaceTime > Blocked Contacts. You'll see a complete list there.

To unblock a number, tap Edit in the top-right corner, then tap the red minus icon next to the contact and confirm. This list is shared across FaceTime, Messages, and the Phone app if you use your iPad for cellular calls.

Filter Unknown Message Senders

Spam isn't limited to calls. To help manage unwanted texts, you can filter messages from unknown senders. Go to Settings > Messages and scroll down to the Message Filtering section.

Turn on Filter Unknown Senders. When enabled, messages from people not in your contacts will be sorted into a separate "Unknown Senders" list within the Messages app. This keeps your main inbox clean and makes spam easier to identify and delete.

Report and Block Junk Messages

When you get an obvious spam iMessage or SMS, you can report it. Open the message thread from the unknown sender. At the top, tap the contact name or number, then tap the (i) info button.

Scroll down and you'll see options to Block this Caller and, below that, Report Junk. Tapping "Report Junk" will delete the message and report the sender to Apple, which helps improve spam filters for everyone.

What Blocking Does on Your iPad

When you block a number for FaceTime, the caller will not be able to reach you on your iPad. Any attempt will fail on their end. For iMessage, messages from a blocked contact will not be delivered to your device, and the sender will not see a "Delivered" status.

If the blocked person leaves a voicemail on a linked iPhone number, that voicemail will be separated into a "Blocked Messages" section at the bottom of your voicemail list on the iPhone. The block is specific to your Apple ID, so it applies across devices signed into the same account.

Block Unwanted Email Senders

If spam is coming through your Mail app, you can block those senders too. Open the Mail app and select an email from the sender. Tap the sender's name at the top of the email header, then tap it again in the pop-up window.

Choose Block this Contact. Future emails from that address will be sent directly to your Trash. You can review and edit your list of blocked email addresses in Settings > Mail > Blocked.
