Can't find keyframes in CapCut PC? The control is a small diamond beside supported properties, and it appears after the right clip and panel are selected. Use these fixes to add the first keyframe, reveal hidden controls, use shortcuts, update CapCut, or switch to CapCut Online.

Add your first CapCut PC keyframes

This fixes the basic animation setup: one diamond at the start, one change later, and CapCut fills the motion between them.

Open CapCut Desktop and click Create project.

Upload your video, image, or audio files.

Drag the media onto the timeline.

Select the clip on the timeline.

Move the playhead to the frame where the animation starts.

In the right panel, find the diamond icon beside Position, Scale, Rotation, or Opacity.

Click the diamond icon to set the first keyframe.

Adjust that property for the starting point.

Move the playhead to the next point in the timeline.

Adjust the same property again; CapCut creates the transition automatically.

Add more keyframes for each extra change.

Click Export when the animation is ready.

Choose what the diamond animates

The diamond icon appears beside supported properties for the selected clip or layer. CapCut Desktop supports Position Keyframes, Scale Keyframes, Rotation Keyframes, Opacity Keyframes, Effect Keyframes, and Audio Keyframes.

For standard motion, use Position to move the clip, Scale to resize it, Rotation to turn it, and Opacity to fade it. CapCut changes that property between the timeline points you set.

For audio, place Audio Keyframes at different points to control volume or balance. Supported video, image, text, and audio clips work across multiple layers when those layers expose the diamond icon.

Template elements, grouped clips, and special assets do not always expose keyframe animation. Swap those items for standard media before treating the keyframe tool as missing.

Set separate keyframes for each property

Select the clip or layer on the timeline.

Open the right-side editing controls.

Choose Position, Scale, Rotation, Opacity, Effect Keyframes, or Audio Keyframes.

Move the playhead to the first timeline point.

Click the diamond icon beside that exact property.

Move the playhead to another point.

Change the same property value.

Repeat the process on another supported property when the same clip needs more than one kind of change.

Use the diamond icon beside the exact property you want to animate, not a nearby property in the same panel.

Find the diamond when it is hidden

When the keyframe button is not visible, fix the selection and the right-side panel first.

  1. 1.Open your project in CapCut on your PC.
  2. 2.Select the video, image, or text clip on the timeline.
  3. 3.Open Video, Transform, or Adjust on the right side.
  4. 4.Find Position, Scale, or Opacity.
  5. 5.Click the small diamond icon next to that parameter.

Replace template clips and grouped elements

Use this when the selected item is part of a template, grouped clip, or special asset and the diamond icon stays hidden. Those elements do not always allow keyframe animation.

Select the element in the timeline.

Detach the template element or replace it with a standard video or image clip.

Open the editing panel again.

Check for keyframe controls.

Use the diamond icon beside a supported property.

Open the keyframe panel from the keyboard

Use the keyboard path when you want the keyframe panel on screen before placing panel keyframes.

  1. 1.Press Alt + K to display the keyframe panel.
  2. 2.Use Shift + Click on the keyframe panel to add keyframes.
  3. 3.Open CapCut's Shortcut options to see shortcut details for your app.

Update CapCut before troubleshooting

Outdated builds create two problems: hidden features and bugs that keep keyframe tools from appearing. In CapCut Desktop, click Settings in the top-right corner, open Version, and select Check for updates.

The alternate updater is the upward arrow in the top-right corner labeled You're up to date. CapCut checks for updates and installs the latest version when one is available.

For a fresh install, use CapCut's official desktop video editor page and click Download, Download for free, or Download for Windows. On Windows, run CapCut_Setup.exe, follow the installer prompts, and launch CapCut from the desktop or the Start menu.

Do not uninstall CapCut during an update. Uninstalling can cause loss of locally saved projects.

Skip old Ctrl K shortcut advice

Do not use Ctrl + K as the keyframe shortcut unless your own Shortcut settings show it. CapCut's keyframe instructions use Alt + K to display the keyframe panel and Shift + Click to add keyframes on that panel.

If the shortcut method fails, select the clip on the timeline and use the on-screen diamond icon beside Position, Scale, Rotation, or Opacity in the right-side panel.

Use CapCut Online on a desktop browser

Use CapCut Online when you are editing from a supported desktop web browser instead of the installed PC app. Online keyframes support video clips and graphics, with advanced options limited compared with Desktop.

Open CapCut's editor in your browser and click Create new.

Under the Video tile, select the video ratio for your project.

Upload media or use stock videos in the multitrack editor.

Select a video clip.

Open the Basic tab in the upper-right control panel.

Find Position, Scale, Rotation, or Opacity.

Click the diamond icon next to the property at the starting frame.

Move the playhead later in the timeline.

Adjust the property value; CapCut adds the next keyframe automatically.

Click Export to download or share.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did CapCut add another keyframe automatically?

After you set the first keyframe, changing the same property later in the timeline creates the next keyframe and the transition between both points.

Can one clip use more than one keyframe type?

Yes. Select the same clip and add separate diamonds for Position, Scale, Rotation, Opacity, effects, or audio controls that the selected layer supports.

What shortcut opens the keyframe panel in CapCut PC?

Alt + K displays the keyframe panel. Shift + Click adds keyframes on that panel, and CapCut's Shortcut options show the shortcut details for your app.

Is CapCut Online the same as Desktop for keyframes?

No. CapCut Online supports keyframes for video clips and graphics in the Basic tab, while advanced options are limited compared with Desktop.
