Slow internet on your Honor Magic 7 Pro can really hold you back, especially when you're trying to stream in high definition or download large files. The good news is that MagicOS 9.0 has several built-in tools to help you get back up to speed.
I'd start with the quickest fix first. A simple restart of your phone can clear temporary network glitches that cause slowdowns. Just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you see the Honor logo appear and the phone reboots.
Check Your Network Mode and Signal
First, make sure your phone is actually connected to the fastest available network. Sometimes it can get stuck on a slower band. Pull down the notification shade and take a look at the status bar icons.
You want to see "5G" or "4G+" for the best speeds. If you only see "4G" or "H+", your connection might be limited. You can manually select the preferred network type by going to Settings > Mobile network > Preferred network type and choosing "5G/4G/3G/2G auto".
Use Honor's Smart Data Switching
MagicOS has a feature similar to WiFi Assist. It's called "Intelligent network switching" and it helps maintain a stable connection. If your WiFi signal becomes weak, your phone can automatically use mobile data to keep your apps running smoothly.
To turn it on, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right, then select Intelligent Wi-Fi. Here, you can toggle on "Switch to mobile data" to enable this helpful feature.
Enable Data Saver Mode
This is one of the most effective ways to speed up your perceived internet performance. Data Saver in Android 15 restricts background data for all apps, freeing up bandwidth for what you're actively doing.
Go to Settings > Mobile network > Data Saver and toggle it on. You can also tap "Unrestricted data" to allow specific apps, like your music streaming service, to bypass the restriction.
Clear Your Browser's Cache
Over weeks of browsing, your browser stores tons of temporary files. While this is meant to speed things up, a corrupted cache can have the opposite effect. Clearing it is a good refresh.
If you use Chrome, open the app and tap the three-dot menu. Go to History > Clear browsing data. Select "Cached images and files" and tap "Clear data". For Honor's built-in browser, the process is similar within its settings menu.
Manage App Background Data
Some apps constantly use data in the background for updates and notifications, which can throttle your speed. You can restrict them individually. Head to Settings > Apps.
Select an app you suspect might be a data hog, then tap Mobile data & Wi-Fi. Here, you can toggle off "Allow background data usage" for that specific app. This forces it to only use data when you have it open.
Reset Your Network Settings
If you're still facing issues, resetting all network settings can be a powerful fix. This will erase all saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data preferences, so you'll have to reconnect to everything.
To do this, go to Settings > System & updates > Reset. Tap on "Reset network settings" and confirm. Your phone will reboot, and you can start with a clean network slate.
Check for Software Updates
Honor frequently releases updates for MagicOS that include performance optimizations and connectivity bug fixes. Making sure you're on the latest software is crucial.
Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap "Check for updates". If an update is available, install it. I'd recommend doing this over a Wi-Fi connection to avoid using your mobile data.
Disable Any Active VPN
While VPNs are great for privacy, they almost always introduce some speed loss due to the encryption and rerouting of your traffic. If you're troubleshooting slow speeds, temporarily turn off any VPN app you have running.
You can usually do this from the VPN app's notification or within the app itself. For a system-level check, go to Settings > Network & internet > VPN to see if any are connected.
Try a Different DNS Server
Your phone uses a DNS server to translate website addresses into IP addresses. Sometimes your carrier's default server can be slow. Switching to a public DNS like Google's or Cloudflare's can speed up page loading.
For Wi-Fi, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap the gear icon next to your connected network. Go to Advanced > IP settings and change it from "DHCP" to "Static". You can then enter DNS addresses like 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare).
Monitor Your Data Usage
Some mobile carriers may throttle your speed if you exceed a certain data threshold in your billing cycle. It's worth checking your current usage. On your Magic 7 Pro, go to Settings > Mobile network > Data usage.
This screen shows you how much data you've used and sets a warning limit. If you're near or past your plan's limit, the slowdown might be coming from your carrier, not your phone.
