Your Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is plugged in, the charger is on, but nothing's happening. No lightning bolt on the battery icon, no percentage going up. It's a frustrating spot to be in, especially with a phone this powerful.
The Pixel 10 Pro XL supports up to 45W wired charging over USB-C and 25W wireless through Qi2. That's plenty fast when everything's working right. The good news is that most charging problems on this phone have straightforward fixes you can do yourself.
Force Restart the Phone First
Before you do anything else, try a force restart. This clears out temporary software glitches that can interfere with charging detection. It takes about ten seconds and costs you nothing.
Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds, then release when the device restarts. Once it boots back up, plug it in and check for the charging indicator.
Clean Out the USB-C Port
Lint and pocket debris are the most common reason a USB-C port stops making good contact. The Pixel 10 Pro XL has a compact port design that can pack up with gunk over time. Grab a flashlight and look inside.
If you see anything in there, turn the phone off first. Use a wooden or plastic toothpick to gently scrape out the debris. Don't use metal anything, the contacts inside are delicate and easy to damage. Compressed air can help too, just keep the nozzle at a safe distance.
After cleaning, try your charger again. If the cable still feels loose or wiggles more than it should, the port itself might be damaged. That's a repair situation.
Swap the Cable and Charger
The easiest way to isolate the problem is to change one variable at a time. Try a different USB-C cable first. Then try a different wall adapter. Then try a different outlet entirely.
This part is important: the Pixel 10 Pro XL charges fastest with a USB-C PPS charger rated at 30W or higher. Not all USB-C chargers are the same. If you're using an old laptop charger or a cheap gas station cable, it might not negotiate the right power profile and the phone will charge slowly or not at all.
If a known-good charger and cable still don't work, check the cable ends for damage or bent pins.
Take the Phone Case Off
This sounds too simple, but it fixes charging problems on the Pixel 10 Pro XL more often than you'd think. Thick cases trap heat, and this phone already runs warm during fast charging. When the internal temperature sensors detect too much heat, the phone will slow charging way down or stop entirely.
Pop the case off before plugging in. If the phone starts charging normally, your case was the problem. The same goes for wireless charging, thick cases and cases with magnetic accessories on the back can block the connection entirely.
Wireless Charging Not Working? Check Alignment
The Pixel 10 Pro XL uses Qi2 wireless charging, which is faster and more efficient than older Qi standards. But it's also more picky about placement. You need to center the phone on the charging pad. Off by even half an inch and it might not register.
If you have a case on, remove it. Some cases, especially ones with pop sockets or card holders, physically prevent the phone from sitting flat on the pad. And make sure your wireless charger itself is plugged into a compatible adapter. A 25W wireless charger needs a power brick that can deliver enough wattage.
Let the Phone Cool Down
Overheating is a known issue on the Pixel 10 Pro XL. If you've been using the phone heavily, gaming, recording video, or navigating with GPS, the internal temperature might be high enough that the charging system won't kick in. This is a safety feature, not a defect.
Move the phone to a cooler spot out of direct sunlight. Don't put it in the fridge (condensation is bad), just let it sit in a normal room temperature environment for 15 to 20 minutes. Then try charging again. If you're charging wirelessly, remember that Qi2 charging generates some heat of its own, so give it a little extra room to breathe.
Update Android 16
Software bugs related to charging do show up in Android updates, and Google pushes fixes regularly. If you're on an older security patch or a launch version of Android 16, an update might resolve the issue.
Go to Settings > System > Software update and check for any available updates. Download and install if there's one waiting. After it reboots, test charging again.
Charge With the Phone Turned Off
Sometimes a background app or process is interfering with the charging circuit. Turning the phone completely off and then plugging it in can bypass whatever's causing the trouble.
Press and hold the Power button, then tap Power off. Once the screen goes dark, connect the charger. If the phone starts charging normally, you've confirmed it's a software issue rather than a hardware one. This is also the fastest way to charge since no apps are running in the background.
Try Recovery Mode as a Last Resort
If you've been through everything above and the Pixel 10 Pro XL still won't charge, a deeper software reset might be needed. This will erase your data, so back up anything important first.
Turn the phone off. Then press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button simultaneously until the device boots into Recovery Mode. Use the volume buttons to navigate to the factory reset option and confirm with the Power button.
After the reset, set the phone up as new and test charging before restoring any apps or data. If it still doesn't work, the charging hardware is likely faulty, a known issue on some early production units of the Pixel 10 Pro XL.
