Seeing the "Settings keeps stopping" error pop up on your Google Pixel 10 Pro can really halt your day. It usually means the app has run into corrupted data or a temporary conflict with another service. The good news is you can almost always fix it without losing any of your personal stuff.

Force Restart Your Pixel

Before diving into menus, give your phone a fresh start. This clears out any temporary glitches in the system memory that might be tripping up the Settings app. On the Pixel 10 Pro, you just need to press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button together for about 10 seconds.

Keep holding until you see the Google logo appear on the screen, then let go. Your phone will boot up normally. Check if you can open Settings without the crash message after it finishes starting.

Clear the Settings App Cache

Cache files are meant to make apps load faster, but they can get corrupted. Clearing them forces the Settings app to rebuild these temporary files from scratch. This is a safe first step that doesn't delete any of your personal data or preferences.

Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Find and tap on the entry for "Settings" in your app list. On the next screen, select Storage & cache. Here, tap the button that says Clear cache.

Once that's done, back out and try opening the main Settings app again. I've seen this resolve the issue on most Pixel models running Android 15.

Update Android and System Apps

An outdated system can have bugs that cause core apps like Settings to crash. Google frequently releases patches for these kinds of issues. First, check for a full system update by going to Settings > System > System update.

Tap "Check for update" and install anything available. It's also a good idea to update all your Google apps through the Play Store. Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device. Under "Updates available," select "Update all."

Check for Problematic App Updates

Sometimes, a recent update to another app, especially one with deep system permissions, can cause conflicts. If the Settings crash started after you updated a particular app, try rolling it back. Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps and find the app you suspect.

Tap on it, then tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Uninstall updates. Confirm your choice. This will revert the app to the version that came with your phone. You can often re-update it later once the conflict is resolved by Google.

Boot Into Safe Mode

Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps you've downloaded. If Settings works perfectly in safe mode, you know the problem is being caused by something you installed. To enter safe mode on the Pixel 10 Pro, press and hold the Power button until the power menu appears.

Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to safe mode. Tap "OK." Your phone will restart with "Safe mode" visible in the bottom corner. Test the Settings app here.

If it's stable, restart your phone normally to exit safe mode. You may need to uninstall recently added apps one by one to find the culprit.

Reset App Preferences

This is a useful middle-ground step. It resets all your app-related settings, like permissions, default apps, and background data restrictions, back to their original defaults. It won't delete any app data or personal files.

Navigate to Settings > System > Reset options. On this menu, tap Reset app preferences. You'll get a confirmation screen listing what will be reset. Tap "Reset apps" to confirm. After your phone applies the changes, test the Settings app again.

Perform a Factory Reset

If you've tried everything else and the Settings app is still unusable, a factory reset is the final step. This will erase all data on your phone, so it's critical to ensure everything is backed up to your Google Account first. You can initiate this from the system settings if you can access them.

If the Settings app crashes too much to navigate, you can use the hardware buttons. Power off your Pixel 10 Pro completely. Then, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button together until you see the Android Recovery screen.

Use the volume buttons to highlight "Wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it. Confirm your choice on the next screen. Once the reset is complete, select "Reboot system now." Your phone will start fresh, and the Settings app should be fully functional.
