If your CMF Phone 2 Pro has gone silent and you're missing calls or notifications because the vibration isn't working, it's a surprisingly common hiccup. The good news is that it's usually a quick software or settings fix, not a hardware failure.
Perform a Force Restart
Before you dive into settings, give your phone a fresh start. A force restart clears out any temporary glitches that might be stopping the vibration motor. Just press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you see the Nothing logo appear and the phone reboots.
This is the simplest fix and often the most effective. I'd start with this one every time.
Check Your Sound and Vibration Profile
Nothing OS uses a clean, straightforward system for managing sounds. Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to open the Quick Settings panel. Look for the sound mode icon, which might look like a speaker or bell.
Make sure it's set to "Ring" or "Sound" mode, not "Silent" or "Vibrate only." If it's on "Vibrate only," you might not feel the haptics if the intensity is set low. Tapping the icon will cycle through the available modes.
Verify System Vibration Settings
Open the Settings app and go to Sound & vibration. Here, you'll find the master controls for your phone's haptic feedback. First, ensure "Vibrate for calls" is toggled on.
Right below that, tap on "Vibration intensity." You'll see sliders for Call vibration, Notification vibration, and Touch feedback. If your phone isn't vibrating, try sliding all of these to the maximum setting to test.
Sometimes a software update can reset these values to a lower level. While you're in this menu, also check that "Touch vibration" and "Keyboard vibration" are enabled if you want haptic feedback for those actions.
Inspect App-Specific Notification Settings
If the vibration works for some apps but not others, the problem is isolated to that app's configuration. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps. Find the app that's not vibrating, like your messaging app, and tap on it.
Select "Notifications." You'll see a list of notification categories for that app. Tap into each relevant category (like "Messages" or "General") and make sure the "Vibrate" toggle is switched on. Some apps bury this setting deep within their own in-app menus too, so it's worth a quick check there.
Update Nothing OS
Running outdated software can lead to bugs, including haptic feedback issues. Nothing is generally good about pushing timely fixes. Go to Settings > System > System update and tap "Check for update."
If an update is available, download and install it. Your phone will restart. It's a good practice to check for updates periodically, as the lightweight Nothing OS still receives important stability patches.
Boot Into Safe Mode
This step helps you figure out if a third-party app you installed is causing a conflict. To boot your CMF Phone 2 Pro into Safe Mode, press and hold the Power button until the power off menu appears.
Then, long-press the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to reboot to Safe Mode. Tap "OK." Once booted, you'll see "Safe mode" in the bottom corner.
Test your vibration now. If it works perfectly in Safe Mode, a recently downloaded app is the culprit. Restart your phone normally to exit Safe Mode and try uninstalling apps one by one, starting with the most recent.
Reset App Preferences or Network Settings
You can reset specific settings without losing your personal data. A useful one here is app preferences. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.
Tap "Reset app preferences." This will reset all notification settings, app defaults, and background data restrictions back to their original state. It won't delete any app data, but you'll need to reconfigure which apps can send you notifications.
If you've been tinkering with connectivity, sometimes a network settings reset can resolve underlying system conflicts. In the same Reset menu, you can choose "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth."
Consider a Factory Reset
If you've tried every software fix and the vibration motor is completely silent, a factory reset is the final step before considering a hardware issue. This will erase all data on your phone, so you must back up everything important first.
Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset). Follow the prompts to confirm. After the reset, set up your phone as new without restoring a backup immediately to see if the vibration works on a clean system.
If it still doesn't work after a factory reset, the vibration motor itself may be faulty. Since the CMF Phone 2 Pro has a modular design with a plastic back, it's possible the motor connection became loose, though this is less common. At that point, contacting Nothing support would be the next step.
