When your Acer Swift Go 14's webcam shows a black screen, isn't detected by apps, or gives an error, it disrupts video calls, meetings, and recordings. Here's how to get it working again.

Check for a Physical Camera Cover

First, look at the top bezel of your screen where the camera is located. Many modern laptops, including some Acer models, have a built-in privacy shutter. It's a small plastic slider you can move side-to-side to cover or uncover the lens. Make sure it's slid completely open.

Restart Your Laptop

A simple restart can clear out software glitches that lock the camera. If another app was using the camera when you tried to open a second one, only a restart will release that lock. Close all your video apps and restart the Swift Go.

Check Camera Privacy Settings in Windows

Windows has a system-wide privacy toggle. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Ensure Camera access

Close Other Apps Using the Camera

Only one application can access the camera hardware at a time. If you have a browser tab using the camera or another video app running in the background, it will block your main app. Open Task Manager and close any apps that might be using the camera before trying again.

Test with the Windows Camera App

Open the built-in Camera app from your Start menu. This is a direct test of the hardware. If the camera works perfectly here but fails in another app like Zoom, the problem is with that app's settings, not your laptop. You'll need to check the video settings within the problematic app.

Update Your Camera Drivers

Open Device Manager and expand the Cameras or Imaging devices section. Right-click on your Acer camera and select Update driver. Choose "Search automatically for drivers." For a more thorough check, I'd use the Acer Care Center app, which can scan for all the latest drivers specific to your Swift Go 14 model.

Reinstall the Camera Driver

If updating didn't help, a clean reinstall might. Back in Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Uninstall device. Check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" if it appears. Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall a fresh driver upon reboot.

Check for Windows Updates

Go to Settings > Windows Update and click "Check for updates." Install any available feature or quality updates. Camera compatibility fixes are often included. Don't forget to also click Advanced options > Optional updates, as driver updates from Acer sometimes appear here.

Reset the Camera App

If the issue is isolated to the Windows Camera app, you can reset it. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Camera, click the three dots, and select Advanced options. Click the Reset button. This clears the app's cache and settings without affecting other programs.
