When your Xiaomi 14T Pro can't download MMS, it's usually a quick settings fix or a network hiccup. MMS needs mobile data to work, so that's the first place I'd check.
Here are the steps to get your photos and videos coming through again.
Check Your Mobile Data Connection
MMS requires an active mobile data connection to download, even if you're on Wi-Fi. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and make sure the mobile data icon is turned on. If you have a weak signal, try moving to a different location.
Also, ensure you haven't accidentally turned on Data Saver, as this can block MMS downloads. Go to Settings > Battery & performance and look for the Data Saver toggle to turn it off.
Restart Your Xiaomi 14T Pro
A simple restart can clear out temporary glitches that might be hanging up the messaging service. Just press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart."
If the screen is unresponsive, you can force a restart by holding the power button down for about 15 seconds until you feel the phone vibrate and see the boot logo.
Enable MMS Auto-Download in Your Messages App
Your phone might be set to manually download MMS to save data. Open the Messages app (often called Messaging or Google Messages) and tap the three-dot menu in the top right. Go to Settings > Advanced.
Look for the "Auto-download MMS" or "Auto-download media" option and make sure it's enabled. Some carrier-specific apps have this setting under Settings > Multimedia messages.
Verify Your APN Settings
Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings are a common culprit. These settings tell your phone how to connect to your carrier's multimedia service. The fastest way to get the right settings is to contact your carrier's support.
You can also check them yourself. Go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks. Select your active SIM card and tap Access Point Names. If the list is empty or you see multiple entries, your carrier can tell you which one to select or what details to enter.
Clear the Cache for Your Messaging App
Corrupted temporary files can cause download failures. Clearing the app's cache is a safe first step that won't delete your messages. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps.
Find your messaging app in the list (like "Messages" or "Messaging") and tap on it. Select Storage usage and then tap Clear cache. After doing this, try downloading the MMS again.
Update Your Phone's Software
HyperOS updates often include fixes for connectivity and messaging bugs. It's worth checking for an update. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version.
Tap on the "Check for updates" button. If an update is available, install it. I'd recommend doing this while connected to a Wi-Fi network and with your phone plugged into its 120W charger, as the Dimensity 9300+ chip can get warm during the process.
Reset Your Network Settings
This will wipe all your network configurations, including Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data settings, and restore them to factory defaults. It's a powerful fix for persistent issues.
To do this, go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset. Tap on Reset phone and then select Reset network settings. Confirm the action and your phone will reboot.
Try a Different Messaging App
Sometimes the issue is with the pre-installed app itself. Downloading a popular alternative like Google Messages from the Play Store can help you test if the problem is app-specific. Set the new app as your default, send yourself a test MMS, and see if it downloads.
If it works in the new app, you might want to stick with it or consider clearing the data for your old messaging app as a last resort, which will erase your message history.
Check for Conflicting Apps or Bloatware
Some pre-installed apps or aggressive battery savers on HyperOS can interfere with background data services needed for MMS. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps and review any recently installed or suspicious apps.
You can also check battery optimization settings. Go to Settings > Battery & performance and tap the gear icon. Look for settings related to background app restrictions and make sure your messaging app isn't being put to sleep.
Contact Your Mobile Carrier
If you've tried everything and MMS still won't download, the problem might be on your carrier's end. They can check if there's an outage in your area, reprovision your line for multimedia services, or confirm that your plan includes MMS.
They can also send you the correct APN settings via a configuration message, which often applies them to your Xiaomi 14T Pro automatically.
