When your POCO X7 Pro isn't recognized by your computer, it stops you from transferring photos, updating files, or even just charging efficiently. This is a common hiccup with Android phones, especially on newer systems like HyperOS 2, but it's almost always something you can fix yourself.

The issue usually comes down to a few simple things: a flaky cable, a dusty USB-C port, or a setting on your phone or PC that needs a quick adjustment. I'd start with the cable and port, as those are the most frequent culprits.

Check Your USB Cable and Port

Grab a different USB-C cable, preferably one you know works for data transfer, and try it. The cable that came with your POCO X7 Pro is a great choice if you have it, but remember, European models didn't include a charger in the box.

Also, try plugging into different USB ports on your computer. Front panel ports can sometimes be less reliable than the ones directly on the motherboard at the back.

Clean the USB-C Port on Your Phone

Take a close look at the USB-C port on your POCO X7 Pro. With its 6000mAh battery making it a daily companion, lint and pocket debris can easily get packed in there over time.

Shine a flashlight in and see if you spot any fuzz or grit. Gently use a dry toothpick or a plastic dental pick to scrape it out. Be very careful not to scratch the central connector pin inside the port.

Restart Your Phone and Computer

This classic fix clears out temporary glitches in both devices. Fully shut down your computer and restart it. For your POCO X7 Pro, perform a force restart by pressing and holding the Power button for about 15 seconds until you see the POCO logo.

Once both devices are back up, try connecting them again with your cable.

Select the Correct USB Connection Mode

When you connect your phone, a notification should appear on your lock screen or notification shade saying "Charging this device via USB." Tap that notification.

You'll see a menu titled "Use USB for." The default is often just "Charging." For file transfer, you need to select "File Transfer" or "Android Auto." Try selecting "File Transfer" and see if your computer now recognizes the device as a drive.

Enable Developer Options and USB Debugging

This is a more advanced step that can help the computer communicate with your phone. First, you need to unlock Developer Options. Go to Settings > About phone and tap on "HyperOS version" seven times. You'll see a message saying you're now a developer.

Go back to the main Settings menu, find and open "Developer options." In there, look for "USB debugging" and toggle it on. Connect your phone again and see if it's recognized. You might get a prompt on your phone asking to allow USB debugging for that computer; tap "Allow."

Update Your Phone's Software

HyperOS 2 is still evolving, and a software bug could be causing the recognition issue. Check for an update by going to Settings > About phone > HyperOS update. Tap "Check for updates" and install anything available.

This can resolve underlying system conflicts that might be interfering with the USB controller.

Update or Reinstall Drivers on Your Windows PC

Your computer needs the correct driver to talk to your Android phone. Connect your POCO X7 Pro to your PC. Press the Windows key + X and choose "Device Manager." Look under "Portable Devices" or "Other Devices" for your phone, it might have a yellow exclamation mark.

Right-click on it and select "Update driver." Choose "Browse my computer for drivers" and then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers." Look for "MTP USB Device" or "Android Device" in the list and select it. If that doesn't work, right-click the device in Device Manager and choose "Uninstall device." Then unplug and replug your phone to let Windows reinstall the driver fresh.

Check Your Computer's USB Selective Suspend Setting

Windows has a power-saving feature that can turn off USB ports to save battery, which sometimes prevents devices from being seen. To disable it, type "Edit power plan" in the Windows search bar and click it.

Click "Change advanced power settings." In the window that pops up, expand "USB settings" and then "USB selective suspend setting." Set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to "Disabled." Click Apply and OK, then restart your computer and try connecting again.

Try a Different Computer or Operating System

If you have access to another laptop or desktop, try connecting your POCO X7 Pro to it. This will tell you if the problem is with your original computer or with the phone itself.

You could also try booting your computer from a Linux live USB stick. If your phone is recognized there, it strongly points to a driver or software issue within your main Windows installation.

Reset Network & Connectivity Settings on Your Phone

This is a broader reset that can clear up misconfigured connectivity protocols without deleting your personal data. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.

Tap on "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth." Confirm the action. After the reset, you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks and re-pair Bluetooth devices, but it can resolve deep-seated connection issues.
