When your POCO X7 Pro stops sending or receiving emails, it can throw a real wrench in your day. You might be missing important work messages or unable to reply to friends. The good news is that email problems on Android, especially with HyperOS 2, are usually fixable with a few specific steps.
Before we get into the detailed fixes, let's check a couple of quick things. First, make sure you have a working internet connection, either through mobile data or Wi-Fi. Second, try a simple force restart by pressing and holding the power button for about 15 seconds until the phone reboots. This can clear up temporary software glitches that might be blocking your email.
Check Your Sync and Background Data Settings
HyperOS can sometimes be aggressive with battery saving, which may restrict apps from syncing in the background. Open the Settings app and go to Battery & performance. Look for a section called App battery saver or similar. Find your email app in the list and make sure its battery optimization is set to "No restrictions".
Next, you should verify that background data is enabled for the app. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, select your email app, and tap on Mobile data & Wi-Fi. Ensure both "Background data" and "Unrestricted data" are toggled on. This allows the app to check for new messages even when it's not open.
Switch Between Mobile Data and Wi-Fi
Network issues are a common culprit. If you're on Wi-Fi, try turning it off and using your mobile data instead. Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings panel and tap the Wi-Fi icon to disable it. See if your email starts working on the cellular network.
If you were using mobile data, try the reverse. Connect to a known good Wi-Fi network. Sometimes email servers or ports can be blocked by certain mobile carriers, so switching networks can bypass that problem entirely.
Toggle Airplane Mode to Reset Connections
This is a classic network refresh trick. Swipe down to open the Quick Settings panel and tap the Airplane mode icon. Wait for about 30 seconds to let all wireless radios completely turn off, then tap the icon again to disable Airplane mode. Your phone will reconnect to your mobile network and Wi-Fi, which can resolve temporary connection hiccups preventing email sync.
Force Stop and Clear the Email App's Cache
A corrupted app cache can cause all sorts of strange behavior. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps and find your email app (like Gmail, Outlook, or the built-in Mail app). Tap on it, then tap Force stop to completely close it.
After that, tap on Storage usage at the bottom of the same screen. Here, tap Clear cache. This deletes temporary files without touching your login information or saved emails. Once done, reopen the app and see if it works.
Verify Your Email Account Password and Security
It's worth double-checking your login details. Try logging into your email account through a web browser on your computer or another device. If you can't sign in there either, you'll need to reset your password through your email provider's website.
Also, if you use two-factor authentication (2FA), you might need to generate a new app-specific password for your phone. Services like Gmail or Outlook require this if 2FA is on. You'll have to remove the old account from your phone and add it back with the new password.
Ensure Mobile Data is Enabled for the App
If emails only fail when you're not on Wi-Fi, the app might be blocked from using cellular data. Go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks. Tap on the SIM card you're using for data, then look for an option like App data usage or "Network access". Find your email app in the list and make sure it's allowed to use mobile data.
Check the Date and Time Settings
Incorrect time settings can break secure connections to email servers. Your POCO X7 Pro should handle this automatically, but it's good to verify. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Date & time. Make sure the switches for "Use network-provided time" and "Use network-provided time zone" are both turned on.
Look for Service Outages with Your Provider
Sometimes the problem isn't with your phone at all. If you're using a major service like Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo, do a quick web search for "[Your Email Service] outage". You can also check the provider's official status page on Twitter or their website. If there's a widespread issue, you'll just have to wait it out.
Disable Any Active VPN Connection
While VPNs are great for privacy, they can sometimes interfere with email protocols or be blocked by your email provider. If you have a VPN app running, open it and disconnect. You can also check in Settings > Connection & sharing > VPN to see if any VPN profiles are active and turn them off. Try sending an email without the VPN enabled.
Update Your Email App and HyperOS
An outdated app can have bugs that break email functionality. Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device. Under "Updates available," see if your email app is listed and update it.
Also, check for a system update. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version and tap on "Check for updates". HyperOS 2 updates from Xiaomi often include fixes for connectivity and notification issues, which could be related to your email problem.
Remove and Re-add Your Email Account
This is a more thorough step that refreshes all the connection settings between your phone and the email server. Open your email app's settings, find the account management section, and select the problematic account. Choose "Remove account" or "Delete account".
Confirm the removal, then go through the setup process again from scratch. Enter your full email address and password. The phone will typically auto-configure the server settings (IMAP/POP, SMTP), which can correct any errors that have crept in.
Review Notification and Sync Settings
If emails are arriving but you're not getting alerts, the notification settings might be off. Long-press on your email app's icon and tap App info. Go to Notifications and make sure "Allow notifications" is enabled. You can also tap on "Other notifications" to ensure alerts for new messages are turned on.
Also, inside the email app itself, check the sync frequency. Look in the account settings for a "Sync schedule" or "Check frequency" option and set it to a regular interval, like every 15 or 30 minutes.
Check for Conflicting Battery or Memory Extender Features
The POCO X7 Pro has several performance features that can sometimes be too aggressive. Go to Settings > Battery & performance and look for a feature called Memory extender or "RAM expansion". Try turning this off temporarily, as it can occasionally cause app instability.
Also, if you use the Game Turbo feature for gaming, make sure it's not accidentally limiting background processes for your email app when you're not gaming. You can check this within the Game Turbo settings themselves.
Reset Your Network Settings
If you've tried everything else and email still fails, resetting network settings can help. This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords, paired Bluetooth devices, and mobile network settings, so be prepared to re-enter them. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset.
Tap on Reset phone, then select Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. Confirm the reset. After your phone reboots, you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and your mobile network. This clears any deep-seated network configuration errors that could be blocking email traffic.
