Seeing that "Download" button on an MMS but having nothing happen on your OnePlus 13 is a common annoyance. It usually comes down to a network hiccup, a setting that got switched off, or a temporary glitch in the messaging app itself.

Let's walk through the most effective ways to get those photos and videos coming through again.

Start With a Phone Restart

It sounds too simple, but it works more often than you'd think. A full restart clears out temporary software bugs that can block MMS downloads. Just press and hold the power button, then tap Restart from the menu that appears.

If the phone is completely unresponsive, you can force a restart. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button together for about 10 seconds until you feel it vibrate and the screen goes black.

Check Your Mobile Data Connection

This is the most critical step. MMS requires an active mobile data connection to download, even if you're on Wi-Fi. Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to open the Quick Settings panel.

Make sure the mobile data icon is turned on. If you have a weak signal, try moving to a different location or toggling Airplane mode on and off from that same panel to force the network to reconnect.

Enable MMS Auto-Retrieve

Your phone might be waiting for you to manually tap "Download" every time. To change this, open the default Messages app and tap the three-dot menu in the top right. Go to Settings > Advanced.

Look for the Auto-download MMS option and make sure it's toggled on. This tells your phone to grab multimedia messages as soon as they arrive.

Verify Your APN Settings

Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings are a frequent culprit for MMS problems. These settings tell your phone how to connect to your carrier's multimedia service. Go to Settings > Mobile network > Access Point Names.

You should see an APN list. Select the one for your carrier. If the MMS settings are missing or look wrong, you'll need the correct info from your carrier's website or customer support. I've found that simply resetting to default here can sometimes fix it.

Clear the Messaging App's Cache

A corrupted cache in the Messages app can cause all sorts of delivery issues. Clearing it is safe and won't delete your conversations. Head to Settings > Apps > Messages.

Tap on Storage & cache and then hit Clear cache. After doing this, force close the app and reopen it to see if MMS downloads start working.

On the app's storage screen, tap Clear cache (Android 16, Pixel emulator; Camera shown as the example app).

Reset Your Network Settings

This is a more comprehensive step that resets all network-related configurations back to factory defaults. It will erase saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data settings, but not your personal files.

On your OnePlus 13, go to Settings > Additional settings > Back up and reset > Reset phone. Choose Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth and confirm. You'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices afterward.

Check for a Software Update

Early builds of OxygenOS can have bugs that affect messaging. OnePlus is typically quick to push out fixes. Keeping your phone updated is one of the best ways to prevent issues.

Go to Settings > About device > tap on OxygenOS version. If an update is available, download and install it over a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Try a Different Messaging App

This is a great way to figure out if the problem is with the default Messages app or with the phone's system itself. Download a popular alternative like Google Messages from the Play Store.

Set it as your default app, grant it the necessary permissions, and see if you can download MMS through it. If you can, the issue is likely with your original app's configuration or data.

Ensure You Have Enough Storage

Your OnePlus 13 needs a little free space to temporarily store and process incoming MMS files. If your storage is critically low, it might fail silently. Go to Settings > Storage to check your available space.

If you're running low, consider deleting some old downloads, cached files, or unused apps to free up a gigabyte or two.

Contact Your Mobile Carrier

If you've worked through all the steps on your phone, the issue might be on your carrier's end. Sometimes there are provisioning errors or account-specific blocks on multimedia messaging.

Give their customer support a call. They can check your line, resend the carrier settings, or confirm if there's an outage in your area affecting MMS services.
