Thirty years after Cloud Strife first dropped into Midgar, Square Enix is closing the book on the Remake trilogy with a launch strategy that would have been unthinkable for the original in 1997.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, unveiled as the closing announcement at Summer Game Fest on June 5, arrives spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC simultaneously. That marks the first time Square Enix has launched a core Remake entry day-one on Xbox and Nintendo hardware alongside PlayStation.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi presented the reveal trailer and extended gameplay showcase alongside voice actor Matt Mercer, confirming the simultaneous release across all platforms. The spring 2027 window also lines up with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII.

The finale picks up with the party grieving a fallen ally and Sephiroth nearing godhood. The entire planet opens up as a smooth world explorable from the Highwind airship, with players parachuting directly into regions below.

Three new zones were highlighted: the tropical Mideel archipelago, the ninja-influenced Wutai region, and the frozen Northern Continent.

Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind make their fully playable debut in the Remake series. Vincent transforms into his Galian Beast form mid-combat, while Cid leans into his dragoon roots with gap-closing lance attacks and sweeping area-of-effect damage.

Both join the full cast of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith.

Revelation introduces the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, abbreviated as FITS. It lets players change combat roles by equipping outfits tied to classic Final Fantasy jobs like Warrior and Black Mage, each with unique movesets. The Materia system remains available alongside FITS for deeper build-crafting.

A free demo of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available on the Nintendo eShop and Microsoft Store for players to catch up before Revelation arrives.

Players carrying save data from earlier entries unlock bonus Summon Materia: Chocobo and Moogle from Remake Intergrade data, and Phoenix from Rebirth data. Newcomers can catch up via the Remake Intergrade and Rebirth Twin Pack, available now for $59.99 with streamlined progression options that include unlimited HP, MP, and a full ATB gauge for faster story playthroughs.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase said the finale represents "my emotions spanning thirty years working on this title," adding that the story's final page requires players to "step inside and memorialize this journey." Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura noted the goal was for all unique story interpretations to "converge in the final chapter of the Remake Series."

The Weapons, the planetary guardians awakened to defend against Meteor, finally appear as enemies. Square Enix described them as "indiscriminate in their destruction," forcing Cloud and his companions to stand against forces even Sephiroth's magic unleashed.

Revelation caps a trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020, followed by Rebirth in 2024, both of which earned critical acclaim, over 140 perfect review scores, and numerous "Game of the Year" awards and nominations. The final chapter arrives spring 2027 on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
