Rebel Wolves has confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker will ship with a 60 FPS Performance Mode at launch on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X, delivered through the day one patch when the game releases on September 3, 2026. The developer responded to player pushback that followed the debut of console footage, which showed only quality and balanced options running on a PS5 Pro.
Performance Mode was already in development but still being tested, according to Rebel Wolves, which held off on announcing it to avoid making half-baked promises. The studio said it was clear how much the 60 FPS option mattered to players, and fans have since thanked the team for listening and acting quickly with clear communication.
PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X will each get three graphics modes in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Performance targets 60 FPS, Balanced targets 40 FPS, and Quality targets 30 FPS, with the PS5 Pro also receiving overall visual enhancements.
Xbox Series S players will not get the same treatment. The console is limited to a single mode targeting 30 FPS, with no separate Performance, Balanced, or Quality options announced.
The controversy began when Rebel Wolves revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker would target 30 and 40 FPS on consoles, a decision that drew sharp criticism from fans who pointed to titles like Marvel's Wolverine supporting 60 FPS on the base PS5. The studio had also published PC system requirements showing the game could run at 60 FPS on Ultra settings, which amplified the argument that console players were being shortchanged.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is the debut project from Rebel Wolves, a studio staffed by developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at CD Projekt RED. The game launches on September 3, 2026, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
