Call of Duty is returning to a Nintendo platform for the first time in over a decade. Activision confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, the same day it arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Developed by Infinity Ward with support from Digital Legends, Modern Warfare 4 marks the first Call of Duty title on a Nintendo console since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U. The announcement, made via Nintendo's official website, ends years of speculation following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard and a 2023 regulatory commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms. The campaign centers on the Korean Peninsula. Players take the role of Private Park, a young South Korean soldier thrown into combat when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion.
Captain Price returns, operating outside the system to track a weapon that threatens global security. Missions span trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, chases through Paris, and city-wide assaults on occupied territory.
Multiplayer launches with 12 core maps and introduces Kill Block, a dynamic battleground that shifts its layout between rounds with over 500 possible configurations. A new Ballistic Authority system promises more authentic weapon handling. The mode supports cross-play, cross-progression, and optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.
DMZ also returns as an extraction mode where players operate behind enemy lines, making choices about objectives, loot, and extraction timing. The Switch 2 version arrives day-and-date with other platforms, a notable shift from past Nintendo ports that often trailed months behind. Nintendo says pre-order details will arrive later this summer.
Pricing and performance specifications for the Switch 2 build have not been disclosed.
