Bandai Namco ended years of fan speculation with a surprise announcement at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026: the mysterious "Project Age 1000" (previously teased as Dragon Ball New Game Project AGE 1000) is actually Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3. The sequel launches in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, skipping Nintendo Switch entirely for current-generation platforms.

The reveal came as official confirmation that a follow-up is finally coming after Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launched in 2016. Developer Dimps, which created the previous Xenoverse games, is returning for the sequel.

This marks an eleven-year gap between mainline entries, with the third installment arriving exclusively on modern hardware rather than supporting last-generation consoles like its predecessor.

Xenoverse 3 transports players to AGE 1000, a far-future Dragon Ball universe hundreds of years beyond the events of Dragon Ball Super. West City serves as the vibrant hub world where players will create custom heroes and join the Great Saiyan Squad.

Original characters designed by late series creator Akira Toriyama populate this new setting.

According to Bandai Namco's official description, players will "explore and uncover exciting new stories in West City" while fighting alongside allies as events begin to take shape. The game combines story-driven RPG elements with character customization that has defined the Xenoverse series since its inception.

The announcement arrived alongside confirmation that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will receive its final DLC chapter this summer, bringing the nearly decade-long support cycle to a close. Future Saga Chapter 4 launches in Summer 2026 as the last major update for the aging title.

Bandai Namco says more information about Xenoverse 3 will arrive "in the months to come." The company aims to replicate Xenoverse 2's success with millions of active players through enhanced technical capabilities on PS5 and Xbox Series hardware.
