Pokémon Champions launches today across both Nintendo Switch generations, delivering a battle-focused experience that bridges console generations ahead of its mobile debut later this year.
The free-to-start competitive title is now available for download on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with players on the newer hardware receiving a free update that enables enhanced visual clarity. This marks one of the first major Pokémon releases to simultaneously support both console generations from day one.
Early adopters who play before August 31 can claim Dragonite and 100 Quick Coupons directly from their in-game mailbox. The game also offers a Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle providing additional storage space, extra battle music, and other benefits for players looking to accelerate their progress.
Battles use familiar mechanics including Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves to create strategic depth for both new and experienced trainers. The game will link with Pokémon HOME, allowing certain Pokémon from past main series games and Pokémon GO to transfer into Champions once mobile compatibility arrives.
Mega Meganium, Mega Emboar, and Mega Feraligatr receive new Mega Evolutions with never-before-seen Abilities in this title.
Mega Meganium gains the Mega Sol Ability that lets it use moves as if under harsh sunlight conditions.
Mega Feraligatr's Dragonize Ability transforms Normal-type moves into Dragon-type attacks while boosting their power by 20%.
Competitive play begins almost immediately with the first Video Game Championships event featuring Pokémon Champions opening registration until April 12 at 6:59 p.m. PDT.
This tournament serves as a preview for the action expected at the 2026 North America International Championships scheduled for June 12-14. At launch, only select Pokémon will be available for use in battles, with more expected through future updates.
The mobile version for iOS and Android devices remains scheduled for release later in 2026, at which point cross-platform battles between Switch and mobile will become possible.
