Seeing a "SIM Card Not Provisioned" error on your Motorola Razr Plus (2024) can stop you in your tracks, especially when you need to make a call or use mobile data. This message means your phone can't properly connect your SIM to your carrier's network. It's a common hiccup, but it's usually something you can fix yourself.

Restart Your Razr Plus

This is always the best place to start. A simple restart can clear out temporary software glitches that might be preventing the network connection. Just press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then tap "Restart."

If the screen is unresponsive, you can force a restart. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the Motorola logo appear. This is often the quickest fix.

Check Your SIM Card Activation

If this is a brand new SIM card or you just switched it to your Razr Plus, it might not be activated yet. The activation process can sometimes take a few hours, but it's worth checking.

Your best bet is to contact your carrier directly. They can look up your account and confirm if the SIM is active and properly linked to your phone number. I've found this solves the issue more often than not with new SIMs.

Toggle Airplane Mode On and Off

This trick forces your phone to completely disconnect from and then reconnect to all wireless networks. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel.

Tap the airplane icon to turn it on. Wait about 30 seconds, then tap it again to turn it off. Your phone will search for the network again, which can often clear up a provisioning error.

Reinsert the SIM Card

The SIM tray on the Razr Plus is located on the bottom edge. Use the SIM ejector tool that came in the box (or a small paperclip) to gently pop the tray out.

Carefully remove the SIM card and check the gold contacts for any dust, lint, or visible damage. Give it a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth and then reseat it firmly in the tray. Make sure the tray slides back in completely flush with the phone's body.

Update Your Phone's Software

Software bugs can sometimes interfere with network services. Motorola releases updates that often include fixes for connectivity issues. Go to Settings > System > System updates.

Tap "Check for update." If one is available, install it. It's a good idea to connect to Wi-Fi first and ensure your phone is charged above 50% before starting the update.

Manually Select Your Network Operator

Your phone usually picks the best network automatically, but sometimes it gets stuck. You can manually choose your carrier to force a fresh connection. Open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network.

Tap on "Advanced" and then "Choose network." Your phone will search for available networks. Select your carrier's name from the list that appears. This bypasses any automatic selection errors.

Reset Your Network Settings

This will erase all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile network preferences, but it won't touch your personal data. It's a strong step for persistent network issues.

Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap on "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth." Confirm your choice and enter your PIN if prompted. After the phone reboots, you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices.

Check Your Account Status

If you're on a prepaid plan, a lack of funds can cause your service to be suspended, which might show as a provisioning error. Log into your carrier's app or website to check your balance and payment status.

For postpaid accounts, a missed bill or a flagged payment can have the same effect. A quick call to customer service can clarify your account standing.

Try the SIM Card in Another Phone

This test tells you where the problem lies. If you have access to another unlocked phone, power it off and insert your Razr Plus's SIM card. Turn that phone on.

If the SIM works in the other device, the issue is likely with your Razr Plus's software or settings. If it also shows as "not provisioned" in the other phone, the problem is with the SIM card or your carrier account.

Contact Your Mobile Carrier

If you've tried everything else, it's time to get your carrier involved. They have tools on their end that you can't access. They can reprovision your SIM on their network, check for local outages, or verify if the SIM card itself has failed.

They can also walk you through any carrier-specific settings for Android 14. If needed, they can send you a replacement SIM card, which is often the final solution for a physically or digitally faulty card.
