When your LG QNED TV's screen starts flickering or flashing, it completely ruins the viewing experience. The problem can stem from a simple cable connection, a software setting, or something more complex with the panel itself. Let's get it sorted.

Power Cycle the TV Completely

This is the quickest fix for random glitches. Unplug the TV from the wall outlet and wait a full 60 seconds. While it's unplugged, press and hold the physical power button on the TV (if it has one) for about 10 seconds to drain any residual power. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This simple reset clears the TV's memory and often stops temporary flickering.

Inspect and Reseat Your HDMI Cables

A loose or faulty HDMI cable is a prime suspect. Unplug every HDMI cable from the back of your QNED TV and plug each one back in firmly. If the flickering persists, try swapping the cable for a known-good, certified high-speed HDMI cable. Also, test the problematic source on a different HDMI port on the TV to rule out a bad port.

Turn Off Energy Saving and AI Picture Modes

Your TV's power-saving features can interfere with the backlight. Press the Settings button on your Magic Remote, navigate to All Settings > General > Energy Saving, and set it to Off. Also, check Settings > Picture > AI Picture Pro and turn that off for testing, as it can sometimes cause erratic brightness changes.

Update the TV's Software

LG frequently releases updates that fix bugs, including display issues. Grab your remote and go to Settings > Support > Software Update > Check for Updates. If an update is available, let it install completely. I've seen updates resolve flickering problems that were purely software-related.

Disconnect All External Devices

To isolate the problem, disconnect everything from your TV's HDMI ports, game consoles, streaming boxes, soundbars using ARC, everything. Use the TV's built-in apps like Netflix or live TV for a while. If the flickering stops, you know the issue is with an external device or its connection. Reconnect them one by one to find the culprit.

Adjust Advanced Picture and Game Settings

Some advanced features can conflict with certain content. Go to Settings > Picture > Advanced Settings. Try turning off Motion Pro (motion smoothing) and AMD FreeSync or NVIDIA G-SYNC if you're gaming. Also, check the Game Optimizer menu and temporarily disable Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to see if it stabilizes the image.

Check the Power Source

Plug your TV directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip or surge protector. Some strips can't handle the consistent power draw of a large QLED/Neo QLED TV, leading to voltage fluctuations that the display interprets as flicker. If you must use a protector, ensure it's a high-wattage model.

Perform a Picture Test

LG TVs have a built-in diagnostic tool. Go to Settings > Support > OLED Care (or Device Care) > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test. This will display solid color patterns. If the flickering or flashing is visible on these test screens, it strongly points to a hardware or panel issue, not an input problem.

Consider Local Dimming Behavior

Since QNED TVs use a backlight with local dimming zones, aggressive dimming can sometimes cause visible fluctuations, especially in dark scenes. You can adjust this in Settings > Picture > Advanced Settings > Brightness > Local Dimming. Try setting it to a lower level like Low or Off to see if the flickering subsides. This is a known quirk with some full-array LED sets.
