So you've got your new Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. It's a powerhouse, but getting all your stuff onto it can feel like a chore if you don't know the best route. Google has streamlined this process, whether you're coming from an older Android phone or finally breaking up with your iPhone. Here's exactly how to transfer everything to your Pixel 10 Pro XL without losing your mind.

The Easiest Transfer Happens During Setup

The smoothest path is right when you first turn on your Pixel 10 Pro XL. When you reach the Copy apps & data screen, tap Next. You can grab data directly from your old device or pull a recent backup from Google Drive.

If you go the direct route, just follow the on-screen prompts. You'll need both phones nearby and unlocked. The Pixel will connect to your old phone and start pulling over your contacts, messages, photos, and even most of your apps.

Use a USB-C Cable for Speed

Wireless transfers work fine, but a cable is faster and more reliable for big transfers. Since the Pixel 10 Pro XL has a USB-C port, grab a USB-C to USB-C cable and an adapter if your old phone is a different type. Connect the two phones, and the Pixel's setup tool will take over.

This method handles large photo libraries and app data much quicker than Wi-Fi. It's also the best option if you're worried about the transfer dropping from a weak signal.

Restore from Your Google Backup

If you don't have your old phone handy, or it's already dead or traded in, your Google backup is your safety net. During the setup, sign into the same Google account your old phone used and select Restore from backup. Pick the most recent backup you see.

Just make sure your old phone actually did a backup recently. On your old device, you could check under Settings > System > Backup. As long as that backup is current, your Pixel 10 Pro XL will download your apps, settings, home screen layout, and Wi-Fi passwords.

Switching from iPhone

Moving away from iOS is easier than it used to be. On your Pixel 10 Pro XL during setup, simply choose iPhone when it asks where you're coming from. You can connect via a Lightning to USB-C cable or wirelessly.

You'll get your contacts, calendar events, and photos moved over. Just keep in mind that your actual iOS apps aren't compatible, so the Play Store will download the Android versions where available. A lot of iMessage history can be tough to move, so use Apple's official data transfer guide first for that.

Verify Your Google Account Sync

Once everything is set up, double check that all your Google services are syncing. Open Settings > Passwords & accounts > Google and make sure Contacts, Calendar, and Chrome are all toggled on. Your photos should also be syncing if you use Google Photos.

This is the stuff that keeps your life organized. If your contacts aren't showing up, it's almost always because the sync toggle got turned off.

Move Your WhatsApp Chats and App Data

WhatsApp has its own built in transfer tool for Android to Android moves. On your old phone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings > Chats > Transfer chats, and follow the prompts. Your new Pixel 10 Pro XL will detect the transfer during setup or when you verify your number.

For other apps without cloud saves, check if they have a manual backup option. Most game progress saves through Google Play Games, so sign into the same account and you should be fine.

Setting Up Wireless Charging (Avoid Common Issues)

The Pixel 10 Pro XL supports Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W. But here's the thing a lot of people miss: you absolutely have to center the phone on the pad. The charging coil is in the middle of the device. If it's off by even a little, you'll either charge slowly or not at all.

Also, take the phone case off. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is known to run warm when charging, and wireless charging generates even more heat. Removing the case helps it stay cool, keeps the battery healthy, and the charge stable. If you're using the 45W wired charger, make sure it supports USB-PD PPS to get the fastest speeds.

What If the Transfer Keeps Failing?

Transfers usually go smoothly, but sometimes they hang or crash. If that happens, the culprit is often heat or a flaky connection. The Pixel 10 Pro XL can get warm during a big transfer. Try taking both phones out of their cases and placing them in a cool, drafty spot to pull heat away.

If the connection keeps dropping, a force restart usually clears up the software glitch. Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds, then release when the device restarts. Then try the transfer again from scratch. If a wired connection isn't working, try the Wi-Fi direct method instead.
