Screen recording on your OPPO Find X8 Pro is a great way to capture a tutorial, save a funny moment from a video call, or share your gaming highlights. The feature is built right into ColorOS 15, so you don't need to download anything extra to get started.
Access the Screen Recorder
Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification shade, then swipe down again to see the full Quick Settings panel. Look for a tile labeled Screen Recorder. If you don't see it immediately, tap the pencil icon to edit your tiles and add it from the list of available options.
On the Find X8 Pro, this tool is integrated into the system and is usually found among the other media and utility shortcuts. I'd start by checking the edit menu if it's not on your first panel.
Start Your First Recording
Tap the Screen Recorder tile. A small control panel will slide up from the side of your display. Here, you can tap the red record button to start immediately with default settings.
For more control, tap the settings gear icon on that panel before you begin. This lets you choose your audio source and whether to show touches on screen, which is really helpful for instructional videos.
Record Audio with Your Screen
The key to a good recording is getting the audio right. In the screen recorder's settings, you'll see options for sound. You can choose System sound to capture audio from apps and games, Microphone to record just your voice, or System sound and microphone for both.
If you're narrating a guide, pick the last option. Just be aware that the microphone will pick up any ambient noise in your room. For clean gameplay footage without commentary, stick with system sound only.
Stop and Save Your Video
While recording, you'll see a floating toolbar with a pause button and a red stop button. Tap the red stop button when you're finished. You can also pull down the notification shade and tap the Stop notification.
The video saves automatically to your phone's gallery. You can find it by opening the Photos app and looking in the "Videos" album or checking your main camera roll.
Edit Your Screen Recording
Open the video in the Photos app. Tap on the Edit button at the bottom. The built-in editor lets you trim the start and end points, which is perfect for cutting out the moments where you were fumbling to start or stop the recorder.
You can also adjust basic elements like brightness or add filters. For more advanced editing like adding text or music, you might want to use a dedicated app from the Play Store.
Optimize for Gaming
The Find X8 Pro's Dimensity 9400 chip is great for gaming, and the screen recorder works well with it. For the best experience, close other apps before a long recording session to ensure smooth performance.
If you're using the 50W AIRVOOC wireless charger, note that the phone can get warm during intensive tasks like gaming and recording simultaneously. I've found it's better to record shorter clips or use a wired connection if you're planning an extended session.
Adjust Quality and Resolution
To manage file size and quality, dive into the screen recorder's settings before you hit record. You can typically adjust the video resolution and frame rate. Higher settings like 1080p at 60fps look fantastic but create much larger files.
For most purposes, like sharing on social media, 1080p at 30fps is more than enough and will save storage space on your device.
Understand Recording Limitations
Due to copyright and security restrictions, you can't record everything. Streaming apps like Netflix or Disney+ will often display a black screen during recording. Secure apps, like your banking app, may also block the feature.
This is a standard Android limitation, not a fault of your phone. Everyday apps, web browsing, and most games will record without any issue.
Share Your Recordings Easily
Once your video is ready, open it in the Photos app and tap the share icon. You can send it directly via messaging apps, email, or upload it to platforms like YouTube or Instagram. For very long recordings, consider trimming them first to make the file more manageable for sharing.
The dual periscope cameras on this phone are amazing for zoom photos, but remember, the screen recorder captures exactly what's on your display, so it's perfect for showing off those camera features in action.
Try a Third-Party App
If you need features beyond the built-in tool, like live streaming or more advanced editing, check the Google Play Store. Apps like AZ Screen Recorder or Mobizen offer additional controls. Just be sure to grant the necessary permissions when you first open them.
Since ColorOS can come with some pre-installed apps, you might already have a utility folder with alternative tools. It's worth exploring your app drawer to see what's already there before downloading something new.
