Your Hisense Roku TV won't turn on, and pressing the remote gets you nowhere. Start with the outlet and the TV's own power button to narrow down whether you're dealing with lost power, a remote problem, or a blank screen on a running TV. Save factory reset and software recovery for last, since both erase your personal setup.
Start with the power connection
If the TV gives no response, check its electrical connection first. A dark standby light alone doesn't prove it has lost power, since some models let you disable that indicator.
Make sure the power cord is connected to an active electrical outlet.
Press Power on the Hisense Roku remote once.
Allow several seconds for the TV to initialize before pressing Power again.
If you hear audio despite the black screen, switch the TV off with the remote or physical Power button before disconnecting it.
Connect the TV directly to a different wall outlet, bypassing any power strip or extension cord.
For a tripped GFCI outlet, press the outlet's Reset button.
Try turning the TV on again with Power.
Give the TV a full power cycle
For freezing, repeated restarts, a stalled logo, or a flickering power light, try this restart that preserves your settings.
- 1.Unplug the TV from its electrical outlet.
- 2.Leave it disconnected for 60 seconds.
- 3.Reconnect the power cord.
- 4.Press Power to turn the TV on.
Test the remote if it gets no response
Try the TV's physical Power control. Look along the bottom, sides, and top of the bezel; your model's manual gives its exact location and operation.
If that turns the TV on, focus on the remote. For a remote with removable batteries, install fresh matching batteries with the correct polarity.
Remove anything blocking the path between a simple infrared remote and the TV.
Aim the remote at the front of the TV. Simple remotes have no microphone or voice button and don't need pairing.
To restart a remote with removable batteries, take both batteries out.
Press two buttons on the remote.
Put the batteries back in.
For a compatible rechargeable Roku voice remote, hold its pairing button for 20 seconds. On a remote without that button, hold Back and Home together for 20 seconds instead.
Wait until the flashing stops.
Charge the rechargeable remote with its supplied cable for at least five hours.
If a voice remote still needs pairing after the TV boots, use a working remote to open Settings > Remotes & devices > Add devices > Remote > Continue.
Hold the pairing button for five seconds until its light flashes. Without a pairing button, hold Back and Home together for five seconds instead.
The official Roku phone app also provides remote control while the TV remains reachable on the network in standby. It cannot restore electrical power or discover a TV that has lost its network setup.
Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
Open the Roku app.
Sign in to your Roku account.
Select your TV.
Open Remote.
Tap Power.
If the remote fixes fail but the TV's physical button works, use a replacement explicitly compatible with your Hisense Roku TV.
Check the input behind a black screen
An inactive external source leaves the screen blank even though the TV is powered on.
Press Home on the remote. If the Home screen displays normally, the TV is running and the connected source needs attention.
Turn on the external device, such as your cable box or game console.
Select that device's input tile on the Home screen.
Check that the source's cable is fully connected.
For intermittent HDMI picture loss or freezing, temporarily substitute another suitable HDMI cable.
If audio is playing with the screen-off feature active, press OK to restore the display. A compatible voice remote also accepts “Turn on display.” This restores an intentionally disabled screen; it doesn't repair a failed backlight.
Use a factory reset only after the basic checks
A factory reset removes settings, apps, and account information, so you'll need to complete guided setup again.
- 1.Find the recessed Reset button using your model's manual. The hardware steps below apply only to Hisense Roku TVs fitted with that button.
- 2.Keep the TV connected to power.
- 3.Use a paper clip to hold Reset for approximately 12 seconds.
- 4.Release the button when the reset completes and the indicator dims.
- 5.Turn the TV on and complete guided setup.
- 6.If menus still work, use this alternative to the button reset: open Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset > Factory reset everything and complete the on-screen confirmation.
Recover a TV stuck at the Roku logo
Failed software loading leaves the TV frozen at the logo or repeatedly restarting.
For these symptoms, try Recovery Mode after a power cycle fails. Recovery reinstalls Roku software and erases your data. Not every Hisense Roku TV supports it.
Hold the TV's Reset button for at least 20 seconds.
Release it when Recovery Mode appears. If recovery doesn't appear after 30 seconds, contact Hisense support.
Select a language on the recovery screen.
Choose Wireless.
Connect to your Wi-Fi network.
Select Update now to reinstall the software.
Complete setup after reinstallation.
If recovery cannot complete the download over Wi-Fi, try connecting to a mobile hotspot. Roku identifies passwords containing certain special symbols as a cause of recovery connection problems.
Retry Update now on the working connection.
Reduce repeat problems once it turns on
Use these settings to address recurring software symptoms and network or voice wake failures.
For a system restart, open Home > Settings > System > Power > System restart. If Power is absent, select System restart directly under System. A normal press of the Power button only puts the TV in standby.
Once the TV has internet access, check for updates through Home > Settings > System > Software update > Check Now.
Allow any available update to install and the TV to restart.
If the TV works with its physical remote but fails to wake through network or voice control, open Settings > System > Power > Fast TV Start, on models that offer it.
Check Enable ‘Fast TV Start’. This maintains standby connections and increases standby power consumption.
Get Hisense help if it remains unresponsive
If the TV still gives no response after the power checks, or persistent no-picture symptoms remain, contact Hisense for model-specific service. In the US, call +1 (888) 935-8880 or open Hisense's contact page and select Parts & Service Support.
Have your model and serial number ready. Describe whether you hear audio, see a logo or indicator light, and get any response from power cycling or resetting. Ask about repair and applicable warranty service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't the Roku phone app find my TV?
The phone and TV must be on the same network, and the TV must have power and remain network-reachable. Disconnect a phone VPN that blocks local access. On iPhone or iPad, allow the Roku app's Local Network permission, then restart the app. For manual connection, find the TV's IP address under Settings > Network > About. In the app, open Devices > Get help? > Connect manually, enter that address, and tap CONNECT.
Why does my Hisense Roku TV turn on and then turn off again?
Check for an active sleep timer, which switches the TV off automatically. Open Settings > System > Time > Sleep timer and cancel the active timer.
How do I turn the standby light back on?
On models that offer the setting, open Settings > System > Power > LED and select ON. Some models disable the indicator by default. Changing this setting restores the indicator, not electrical power.
Can I use a universal remote to turn the TV on?
Yes, with a remote explicitly compatible with your Hisense Roku TV. Follow its manufacturer's programming instructions and use the appropriate Hisense code from Roku's universal-remote table. Select TV mode and test Power. If it doesn't work, repeat setup with another listed code.
