Getting bombarded by spam or calls from a specific person on your OnePlus Nord 4 is frustrating. The good news is that OxygenOS, built on Android 14, gives you several straightforward ways to block them. Once a number is blocked, it can't ring through or send you text messages.

Block a Number from Your Call Log

This is the quickest method for a recent nuisance caller. Open your Phone app and tap the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block, then tap and hold on the entry. A menu will pop up. Select Block/report spam from the list. Confirm your choice, and that number will be added to your blocked list immediately.

You can also tap the small i icon next to the number to see more details. On the contact info screen, you'll find a Block option near the bottom. Tapping it achieves the same result.

Block Someone Directly from a Text Conversation

If the harassment is coming via SMS, open the Messages app. Navigate to the conversation with the unwanted number and open it. Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner and select Details.

On the details screen, you will see the contact information. Tap Block & report spam. A confirmation dialog will ask if you want to block and report the number as spam. I'd recommend doing both to help improve spam filters for everyone.

Block a Contact from Your Address Book

For blocking someone you know, like an ex or a persistent telemarketer whose number you've saved, use the Contacts app. Open Contacts, find the person, and tap their name to open the full contact card.

Tap the three-dot menu button in the top-right corner. From the menu that appears, select Block numbers. This will block every phone number listed for that contact. It's a clean, one-step process to cut off all communication.

Manage Your Entire Blocked List

To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, you need to go into your phone's settings. Open the Settings app and scroll down to Apps. Tap on Call management or find and select the Phone app from the list.

Inside the Phone app settings, look for Blocked numbers. Tapping this will show you a complete list of every number you've blocked. To remove a number, simply tap the X next to it or tap Unblock. You can also manually add numbers to this list by tapping Add a number.

Turn on Google's Spam Protection

Your OnePlus Nord 4 uses the Google Phone app by default, which has excellent built-in spam filtering. To enable it, open the Phone app and tap the three-dot menu in the top-right. Go to Settings > Spam and Call Screen.

Here, toggle on See caller ID and spam. Also, enable Filter spam calls. With this on, calls identified as spam by Google's vast database will be automatically declined and sent to voicemail. You'll see a warning on your screen if a suspected spam call does come through.

Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers

For a more nuclear option to stop robocalls, you can silence any caller not in your contacts. Go back to Phone app Settings > Spam and Call Screen. Look for the option labeled Call Screen or Filter unknown callers.

Toggle on Automatically screen unknown callers or a similar setting. When enabled, calls from numbers not saved in your contacts will be silently sent to voicemail without ringing your phone. Legitimate callers can still leave a message, which you can check later.

What Actually Happens When You Block

When you block a number on your Nord 4, the caller's experience depends on your carrier. Typically, they will hear one ring and then be sent directly to your voicemail. In some cases, they might hear a busy signal or a message that the line is unavailable.

The key point is they won't receive any specific notification that they've been blocked. On your end, their text messages are completely deleted and never show up in your Messages app. Their call attempts won't log in your recent history, giving you peace and quiet.

Using a Third-Party Blocker App

For the most aggressive defense against spam, consider an app like Truecaller. These apps maintain massive, community-updated databases of spam numbers worldwide. After installing from the Play Store and granting the necessary permissions, they can identify and block spam calls before your phone even rings.

They also provide caller ID for numbers not in your contacts, pulling names from public directories. The setup usually involves making the app your default dialer, which it walks you through. It's a great layer of extra protection on top of Google's built-in filters.
