Getting bombarded by spam calls and texts on your OnePlus 12 is incredibly frustrating. The good news is that OxygenOS 14 has several built-in tools to silence those unwanted contacts for good. Once you block a number, their calls and messages are stopped before they ever reach you.

Block a Number from Your Call Log

Open your Phone app and tap the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block, then tap on it to see more details. On the call details screen, you should see an option labeled Block/report spam. Tap it, confirm your choice, and that number will be added to your block list immediately.

Some carriers integrate their own spam protection, so you might see a slightly different prompt. The core function is the same, though. The caller will be sent straight to voicemail without ringing your phone.

Block Someone Directly from a Text Message

If the spam is coming via SMS, open the Messages app and find the conversation. Tap and hold on the message thread, then select Block from the menu that pops up. You can also open the conversation, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and choose Details.

Inside the conversation details, you’ll find the Block & report spam option. This not only blocks the number but can also help improve spam detection for everyone by reporting it. I’d recommend using this option when you’re sure the message is junk.

Block a Contact from Your Address Book

To block someone you’ve saved, open the Contacts app. Find and tap on their name to open their contact card. Look for the three-dot menu button, usually in the top-right corner, and tap it. You should see Block numbers in the list.

Selecting this will block all phone numbers associated with that contact. This is useful if someone is harassing you from multiple lines. It’s a more comprehensive block than just targeting a single number from your call log.

Manage Your Entire Block List

To see who you’ve blocked or to manually add a number, go to your Phone app and tap the three-dot menu. Navigate to Settings > Blocked numbers. You’ll see a complete list of all blocked contacts.

From this screen, you can tap the Add a number field at the top to block someone manually. To unblock, simply tap the X icon next to any number in the list. It’s a good idea to review this list every few months to clear out old entries.

Turn On Google’s Spam Protection

Your OnePlus 12 uses the Google Phone app by default, which has excellent spam filtering. To enable it, open the Phone app, go to Settings > Caller ID & spam. Here, toggle on both See caller and spam ID and Filter spam calls.

With this on, your phone will use Google’s constantly updated database to identify suspected spam. These calls will be flagged with a red warning on your screen or can be set to be silently rejected, which I find to be the most peaceful option.

Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers

For the ultimate peace and quiet, you can block all calls from numbers not in your contacts. In the Phone app, go to Settings > Blocked numbers. Look for the toggle that says Block calls from unknown numbers or similar and turn it on.

This is a very aggressive setting, as it will block calls from doctors’ offices, delivery drivers, or any other legitimate business not in your contacts. They can still leave a voicemail, so be sure to check that regularly if you have this feature enabled.

What Actually Happens When You Block

When you block a number on your OnePlus 12, what the caller experiences depends on your carrier. Typically, they will hear one ring and then be diverted to voicemail, or they might hear a busy signal. There is no official message telling them they’ve been blocked.

On your end, their text messages are completely deleted and never show up in your inbox. For calls, you might see a brief notification that a blocked call was silenced, or you might see nothing at all. The interruption is completely removed from your day.

Use a Third-Party App for Maximum Control

If you want even more powerful filtering, consider an app from the Play Store. Truecaller is a popular choice that uses a massive, community-updated database to identify and block spam calls and texts before your phone even rings.

After installing, the app will guide you through granting the necessary permissions to screen calls. These apps often offer caller ID for unknown numbers and more granular blocking rules, like blocking by area code or entire number prefixes.
