The Powerbeats Pro 2 reset is a lot simpler than the multi-tap routine Apple started using on the newer AirPods. You just hold one button. If you're selling the buds, dealing with connection dropouts, or trying to clear a stuck pairing from an old phone, a factory reset wipes everything clean in about 15 seconds.
The reset removes the Powerbeats Pro 2 from any device they're paired to, whether that's an iPhone or an Android phone. Once done, they won't auto-connect to anything until you re-pair. That's the point if you're handing them off to someone else. If you're resetting to fix a glitch, just plan on a quick re-pair afterward.
Before Using the Reset Button
The case needs enough charge to keep the LED visible during the process. Throw it on a Qi pad or plug in USB-C for a few minutes if the battery is low. 5W input is standard, so don't expect fast charging.
Make sure both earbuds are seated correctly in the case and the magnets snap them into place. If a bud is sitting loose, the reset might not register properly. The LED on the front of the case will be your signal that everything worked.
Hold the System Button for 15 Seconds
Open the case with both buds inside. On the inside of the case, between the two charging slots, you'll find a small round button. That's the system button. Press and hold it for a full 15 seconds. The front LED will flash red first, then start alternating red and white. That alternating red/white flash is your confirmation the reset completed. Release the button when you see it.
If you let go too early, the reset doesn't run. You'll see just a solid red or a single white flash, not the alternating pattern. Try again, holding the button down until the pattern starts. The timing is forgiving, so if you hold for 18 seconds instead of 15, no harm done.
Check That the Reset Took
On an iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth. The Powerbeats Pro 2 should no longer appear as connected. They might still show up in the list if you previously used them, but the status will be "Not Connected." On Android, open the Beats app (or just check system Bluetooth settings). The buds should be gone from your paired devices list.
If they still show as connected, the reset didn't complete. Repeat the button hold and make sure you see the red and white alternating LED before releasing.
Re-Pair on iOS or Android
After a successful reset, the Powerbeats Pro 2 are in factory pairing mode. On an iPhone, bring the open case within a few inches of your unlocked phone. A setup card should appear at the bottom of the screen within 5 seconds. Tap Connect and follow the prompts. The buds will be linked to your Apple ID, so your iPad and Mac will pick them up automatically.
On Android, open the Beats app. It should detect the nearby buds and prompt you to pair. Follow the on-screen steps. The Beats app is the only way to get firmware updates and full feature parity on Android, so it's worth installing before pairing.
If the setup card doesn't appear on iOS, make sure Bluetooth is on. On Android, check that location permissions are granted for the Beats app. The buds require Bluetooth proximity to trigger the pairing card.
Reset When the Buds Are Still Paired
If the Powerbeats Pro 2 are currently connected to your phone and you want to do a full reset, remove them from your device first. On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the (i) next to the buds, then tap Forget This Device. On Android, go to system Bluetooth settings, tap the gear icon next to the Powerbeats Pro 2, and select Unpair. Then run the button reset as described above for a clean slate.
What Changes After a Factory Reset
The reset clears all saved Bluetooth pairings and any custom settings stored on the earbuds themselves. Things like in-ear detection behavior (auto-pause when removing a bud) revert to their defaults. Personalized settings like the heart rate monitoring configuration aren't stored on the buds, those live in the app, so they'll come back once you re-pair and open the Beats app or Apple Health.
The ear hook angle adjustment is physical, not software-based, so that stays as you set it. But if you've been noticing the hooks feeling looser than when new, that's a known wear pattern. You can gently bend the hook to tighten the grip around your ear, just be careful not to over-bend.
If the Reset Doesn't Fix the Issue
Sometimes a reset isn't what you need. The Powerbeats Pro 2 have a couple of quirks that are worth checking before you blame the software.
Case sensor not detecting the lid opening: The sensor inside the case occasionally fails to register when you lift the lid. If the buds don't auto-connect when you open the case, try closing it firmly and reopening. A quick wipe of the sensor area (the small window near the hinge) with a dry cloth can also help.
Heart rate monitor giving wild readings during high-intensity workouts: The built-in HR sensor can struggle during heavy sweat or rapid movement. This isn't a reset fix. Make sure the earbud is sitting snugly in your ear (the hook is crucial here) and the sensor lens is clean. If you're using an Android phone, check that the Beats app has the necessary permissions for Health data.
One bud won't charge: If one side isn't charging, it's usually a contact issue. The charging pins in the case can get grimy. Clean them with a dry cotton swab. Also check that the bud is seated correctly, the magnets should pull it in firmly.
If the ear hooks are causing discomfort or feel too loose, adjust the angle slightly. Bend the hook outward or inward, matching the curve of your ear. The hook is flexible enough for a few adjustments, but avoid repeated bending in the same spot to prevent snapping.
The Powerbeats Pro 2 are sweat-resistant at IPX4, so rinsing them with fresh water after a sweaty workout and drying them off can prevent gunk buildup on the sensors and charging contacts. That's not a reset fix, but it'll keep them working properly longer.
