When your Fire TV Stick 4K won't connect to WiFi, you're stuck staring at a loading screen. Whether it's not finding your network, connecting without internet, or dropping constantly, these steps will get you back to streaming.

Restart Your Fire TV Stick

Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Restart. This is a soft restart that clears temporary glitches. If the menu is inaccessible, unplug the power adapter from the wall or the USB port on your TV for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

I'd start with this one, as it fixes the majority of temporary connection hiccups. It only takes a minute and doesn't affect your apps or settings.

Restart Your Router and Modem

Unplug your router and modem from power for a full 60 seconds. Plug the modem back in first, wait for all the lights to stabilize, then plug in the router. This process, often called a power cycle, refreshes your entire home network.

If other devices also can't connect, the problem is almost certainly with your router or internet service. This step rules that out.

Forget and Re-add Your WiFi Network

On your Fire TV, navigate to Settings > Network. Select your current network and choose Forget. Go back and scan for networks, then select yours again and re-enter the password.

This creates a brand new connection profile. It's the best fix for when the stick is connected but says there's "No Internet" or has extremely slow speeds.

Check Your WiFi Password and Band

Double-check you're entering the correct WiFi password. The on-screen keyboard can be tricky. Also, see if your router broadcasts separate networks for 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

The Fire TV Stick 4K supports both bands. If you're far from the router, try connecting to the 2.4GHz network for better range. If you're close, the 5GHz band is faster and less congested.

Move Your Fire TV Stick or Router

The Stick's WiFi antenna is small. If it's plugged directly into a crowded HDMI port on the back of your TV, the signal can be blocked. Using the included HDMI extender cable can dramatically improve reception.

Try to position the Stick so it's not hidden behind the TV. Similarly, if your router is in a closet or far away, moving it to a more central location can help all your devices.

Change Your DNS Server

In your Fire TV's network settings, after selecting your network, choose Advanced. Change IP settings to Static (don't worry, you can change it back). Scroll down to DNS and manually set it to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.

Your internet provider's default DNS can sometimes be slow or unreliable. Switching to a public DNS like Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) can resolve connection errors and speed up browsing.

Check for Software Updates

Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. Amazon regularly releases updates that fix bugs, including WiFi performance issues.

If you can't connect to WiFi to download an update, you may need to use a mobile hotspot temporarily to get the initial update, or perform a full reset.

Reduce Network Congestion

The home screen on Fire TV devices is ad-supported, and those high-quality video ads use bandwidth in the background. Sideloaded apps that aren't from the Amazon Appstore can also sometimes cause network interference.

If you have many devices streaming, gaming, or downloading at once, your network may be overloaded. Try pausing other activities to see if the Fire TV's connection stabilizes.

Perform a Factory Reset

If all else fails, a factory reset will wipe the device back to its original state. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults.

Remember, this will erase all your apps, logins, and settings. You'll have to set everything up again from scratch, so use this as a last resort. If menus are unusable, holding the Back button and Right directional button for 10 seconds brings up the factory reset prompt; it is still a factory reset, not a lighter force reset.
