When your Xiaomi 14T Pro's hotspot stops working, it can leave your laptop or tablet stranded without internet. Whether other devices can't find it, fail to connect, or get dropped, the issue is usually something you can fix yourself without much hassle.
Toggle the Hotspot Off and On
Head into your phone's Settings and tap on Connections & sharing, then Portable hotspot. Turn the toggle off, wait about 10 seconds, and turn it back on. This quick reset often clears a temporary software glitch and gets things running again right away.
Restart Your Xiaomi 14T Pro
If the toggle didn't help, a full restart is a solid next step. Just press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds until you feel the phone vibrate and see the Xiaomi logo appear. This force restart is more thorough than a standard reboot and can clear up background processes that might be interfering with the hotspot function.
Verify Your Mobile Data Connection
Your hotspot is useless without a solid mobile data signal. Pull down the notification shade and make sure mobile data is enabled. Check your signal strength icon, too. If you're in a basement or a rural area with weak reception, the hotspot will struggle. Also, double-check with your carrier that your specific plan includes tethering, as some budget plans restrict it.
Check for Data Saver or App Restrictions
HyperOS has some aggressive battery and data management features. Go to Settings > Battery and see if a power-saving mode is active, as these can limit background data for the hotspot. Also, go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, find your carrier's services app, and ensure its background data isn't restricted.
Reset Your Network Settings
For more persistent issues, resetting network settings is a powerful fix. Navigate to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Reset phone > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. This will erase all saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and cellular preferences, so you'll have to reconnect to everything afterward. It rebuilds your network stack from scratch, which solves a lot of odd connectivity problems.
Update Your Phone's Software
Software bugs can break features like the hotspot. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version and tap "Check for updates". If an update is available, install it. I've seen updates specifically mention "improved network stability" in their changelogs, which often includes fixes for tethering issues.
Forget the Network on the Connecting Device
The problem might not be with your phone at all. On the laptop or tablet that's trying to connect, go into its Wi-Fi settings and find your phone's hotspot network. Choose to "Forget" or remove it from the list of known networks. Then, search for Wi-Fi networks again, select your hotspot, and enter the password fresh. This clears any corrupted connection data on the other device.
Change Your Hotspot's Name and Password
Go back to Settings > Connections & sharing > Portable hotspot. Tap on Set up Wi-Fi hotspot. Here, you can change the Network name (SSID) and the Password. Set a new, simple password without special characters, save it, and then try connecting your other device again. A new password forces a completely new authentication handshake.
Try USB Tethering Instead
If the Wi-Fi hotspot is being stubborn, use the included USB-C cable. Connect your Xiaomi 14T Pro directly to your computer. On your phone, with the hotspot still enabled in settings, a notification for "USB tethering" should appear. Tap it to activate. This creates a wired internet connection that's often more stable and isn't affected by Wi-Fi interference.
Review Installed Apps and Clean Up
Some regional variants of the Xiaomi 14T Pro come with pre-installed apps that can sometimes interfere. It's worth going to Settings > Apps > Manage apps and looking for any recently installed or suspicious apps you don't recognize. You can uninstall or disable them. Also, if you've installed any third-party VPN, firewall, or "network booster" apps, try disabling them temporarily to see if they're the culprit.
