Wyze Cam v4 Says Offline in App? Here's How to Fix It

You pull up the Wyze app to check on your Cam v4 and there it is, the dreaded gray "Offline" tag under the camera name. Live feed won't load, motion events stopped sending, and you can't even toggle the status light remotely.

Start with the simplest fix: unplug the USB-C cable from the back of the Cam v4, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. The camera takes about 45 seconds to reboot and reconnect to Wi-Fi. If it shows online in the app after that, you're done. If not, don't panic, this is usually a network hiccup or a quick settings fix.

Why the Cam v4 Spontaneously Goes Offline

The Wyze Cam v4 runs strictly on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, no 5 GHz, no 6 GHz. That's by design for range, but it also means the camera is vulnerable to router band-steering quirks and channel congestion. The most common culprits are:

  • Router rebooted silently: ISP firmware updates often reboot the router overnight, and the camera doesn't reconnect cleanly.
  • Wi-Fi password changed: if you recently updated your network password and haven't told the camera, it sits offline until you re-enter it via the app.
  • DHCP lease expired: the router gave the camera an IP address that has now run out, and the camera didn't request a new one.
  • Wyze cloud service outage: Wyze has had past downtime where cameras show offline in the app even though they're connected and recording locally.
  • SD card or firmware hang: a stuck firmware update or a corrupted microSD card can prevent the camera from reporting its status to the cloud.

Confirm Your Wi-Fi Is Actually Working

Before you blame the camera, check that your home network is alive. Open a web page on your phone while connected to Wi-Fi (not cellular data). If the page doesn't load or other smart devices are also offline, your router or modem is the problem. Reboot the router first, unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait 2 minutes, and watch for the Cam v4 to reappear in the app.

If your phone and other devices are fine and only the Wyze Cam v4 is offline, the issue lives in the camera's connection or the Wyze cloud. Move on to the next fix.

Power Cycle Properly

Unplug the USB-C cable from the camera itself (not the wall adapter) and count to a full 30 seconds. That gives the internal capacitors enough time to discharge completely. Plug it back in and wait about a minute. Open the Wyze app and pull down to refresh the device list. If the camera shows as online, you're good. If not, try using a different USB-C cable and adapter, a dying adapter or frayed cable can drop voltage and cause intermittent offline behavior.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi via the Wyze App

Open the Wyze app, tap the Cam v4, then tap the gear icon (settings) in the top right. Scroll to Device Info and tap Wi-Fi Setup. The app will walk you through reconnecting to your 2.4 GHz network. If you changed your Wi-Fi password recently, this is almost certainly the fix.

If your router uses a combined SSID for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, that's usually fine, the Cam v4 only sees the 2.4 GHz band. But if your router has separate SSIDs, make sure you're selecting the 2.4 GHz one. Choosing the 5 GHz SSID will cause the camera to fail to connect (since it only supports 2.4 GHz).

Check for a Wyze Cloud Outage

If your camera was working fine and suddenly goes offline, especially if multiple Cam v4 units show offline at the same time, Wyze's cloud services could be down. Open a browser and go to status.wyze.com, or check social media for "Wyze down" reports. In my experience, these outages are short-lived (30 minutes to a few hours). During an outage, no amount of power cycling or reconnecting will fix it; just wait for the cloud to come back.

If you have a microSD card installed, the camera is still recording locally during an outage. You can pull the card and view the footage on a computer without needing the cloud.

Force the Camera to Reconnect by Removing It and Adding It Back

If the camera is online on your Wi-Fi (your router shows it as connected) but the Wyze app still says offline, the cloud-to-device binding is broken. Open the Wyze app, tap the Cam v4, tap the gear icon, scroll to the bottom, and tap Remove Device. Confirm removal. Then tap the plus sign in the app, select Camera, and follow the setup flow to add the Cam v4 back.

This doesn't wipe the microSD card or factory reset the camera, it just clears the cloud association. You'll need to redo any custom settings (like motion zones or alert schedules) after adding it back.

Factory Reset as a Last Resort

Grab the camera and flip it over. Locate the small pinhole setup button on the bottom. Press and hold it for 10 seconds, keep holding until you hear a chime and see the status light blink yellow. The camera resets to factory defaults. Open the Wyze app and add it again from scratch using Add Device.

A factory reset erases all saved Wi-Fi credentials and custom settings, but it does not erase video stored on an SD card. If the camera still shows offline after a reset and fresh setup, you're likely dealing with a hardware fault. Contact Wyze support if that happens.
