Your Wyze Cam v4 went dark, the live feed won't load, the app shows "Device Offline," or the status light stopped doing anything useful. Usually this clears up in a few minutes.

Start with the simplest fix first. Unplug the USB-C cable from the camera (not the wall) and count to 30 before plugging it back in. The light should flash yellow for boot-up, then steady blue when it's connected. Open the Wyze app and check the live view. If that did it, you're done.

If the camera stays unresponsive after a power cycle, here's what's actually going on and how to work through each possibility.

Common Reasons the Cam v4 Goes Dark

  • Cloud outage: Wyze app servers have had extended downtime in the past. The camera may be fine locally but shows offline because the cloud is down.
  • Wi-Fi band issue: The Cam v4 only works on 2.4 GHz. If your router recently combined bands or dropped 2.4, the camera can't reconnect.
  • Firmware stuck: An overnight update may have partially applied, leaving the camera hung.
  • SD card failure: If you're using a microSD card for continuous recording, a corrupted card can lock up the camera's file system.
  • Subscription lapse: Without Cam Plus, you get only 12 seconds of cloud video per event, but the camera should still stream live. A lapse won't cause unresponsiveness by itself, but combined with other issues it can confuse diagnosis.

Check Wyze App Cloud Status

Before digging into the camera hardware, check whether other Wyze devices in your home show the same offline status. If multiples are offline, the odds of a cloud outage are high. Open the Wyze app, tap the profile icon in the top-left, then scroll down to Wyze Service Status. If it shows an outage, you just have to wait, the camera is fine.

Force a Live View Refresh

Sometimes the camera is online but the app cache is stale. Pull down on the live feed to force refresh. If you get a spinning wheel for more than 10 seconds, try closing the Wyze app entirely (swipe it away on iOS/Android) and reopening. That often shakes the app-side connection loose.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz Only)

The Cam v4 absolutely requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, it doesn't support 5 GHz or 6 GHz. If your router uses the same SSID for all bands, the camera may have taken a band it can't use. Best approach: temporarily disable 5 GHz in your router settings, or create a separate 2.4 GHz-only guest network. Then in the Wyze app, go to Device Settings > Wi-Fi > Change Wi-Fi and walk through setup again.

Check the microSD Card

A corrupt or worn-out SD card can lock up the Cam v4. If you have a card installed for continuous recording, unplug the camera and remove the card. Power the camera back on with no card. If it comes to life, format the card inside the camera: Device Settings > MicroSD Card > Format. Use a card rated High Endurance or U3 for reliability. Reinsert and test.

Force a Firmware Update

Wyze pushes camera firmware silently. Leave the camera plugged in and idle for 30 minutes, then power cycle it. The pending firmware installs during boot. If this doesn't help, check the Wyze app for a manual update: Device Settings > Firmware Version > Check for Updates. Update if one is available.

Factory Reset the Wyze Cam v4

If nothing else has worked, a full reset clears every setting. Flip the camera over and press and hold the Setup button on the bottom for 10 seconds until the status light flashes yellow quickly. The camera resets to factory state. You'll need to set it up again from scratch in the Wyze app, this wipes all recordings, rules, and your Wi-Fi credentials.

Reboot Your Router

If other smart home gadgets have been flaky lately, the router is the likely cause. Unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait 3 minutes for full reconnection. The Cam v4 should rejoin automatically. If it doesn't, walk through Wi-Fi setup again.

After a factory reset, if the camera still won't connect or boot past the yellow flashing light, the hardware may need replacement. The Cam v4 is covered under Wyze's 1-year limited warranty, reach out through the app's support chat. Until then, consider moving the camera closer to your router to rule out signal distance as the culprit.
