When your Tecno Spark 30 Pro doesn't show up on your PC, it stops you from transferring photos, music, or backing up files. This is a common hiccup with Android phones, and it's almost always something you can fix yourself without any special tools.
The issue usually comes down to a simple setting, a bad cable, or a driver that needs updating. Since the Spark 30 Pro runs on HiOS 14 over Android 14, the steps are a bit different from other brands, but they're just as straightforward.
Check the USB Connection Mode
This is the first thing I'd check. When you connect your phone, it doesn't automatically show up as a drive. You need to tell it what to do. Plug in your USB-C cable, then swipe down from the top of your screen to see the notification panel.
Look for a notification that says "Charging this device via USB" or something similar. Tap on it. A menu will pop up asking how you want to use the connection. Select "File Transfer" or "MTP" (Media Transfer Protocol). Your PC should now recognize the phone.
If you only see "Charging," that's why your computer can't see it. Changing this setting is the fix for most people.
Test Your Cable and Port
A faulty cable is a very common culprit. The Spark 30 Pro uses a USB-C port and supports 33W fast charging with the included brick, but any data-capable USB-C cable should work. Try a different cable if you have one, preferably the one that came in the box.
Also, try plugging into a different USB port on your computer, preferably one directly on the motherboard instead of a hub. While you're at it, take a quick look at the phone's USB-C port for any pocket lint or debris. A gentle brush with a dry toothpick can clear it out.
Restart Your Phone and Computer
A simple restart can clear out temporary glitches in both devices. Start by restarting your Tecno Spark 30 Pro. Just hold the power button and tap restart. If it's completely frozen, you can force restart it by holding the Power button and Volume Down button together for about 10 seconds until you feel it vibrate and reboot.
After your phone is back on, restart your Windows PC. Once both devices are fresh, try connecting them again with the "File Transfer" mode selected. This basic step resolves more issues than you'd think.
Install or Update the USB Driver
Your PC needs the correct driver to talk to your Android phone. Windows often installs a basic one automatically, but it might be outdated or missing. The easiest way to get the right driver is through Windows Update.
Connect your phone to the PC in "File Transfer" mode. On your PC, press the Windows key + X and choose "Device Manager." Look for your phone. It might be under "Portable Devices" as "Tecno Spark 30 Pro" or under "Other devices" with a yellow warning icon.
Right-click on it and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for drivers." Let Windows find and install the best available driver. If that doesn't work, you may need to install the generic Android USB driver, which you can find from Google's official Android developer site.
Enable Developer Options and USB Debugging
This is a slightly more advanced step that can help if the connection is being finicky. First, you need to unlock Developer Options. Go to your phone's Settings, then scroll down to "About phone." Tap on "Software information."
Find the line that says "Build number" and tap on it seven times quickly. You'll see a message saying "You are now a developer." Go back to the main Settings menu, and you'll find a new "Developer options" menu near the bottom.
Inside Developer options, scroll until you find "USB debugging." Toggle it on. A warning message will appear, just tap "OK." This gives your computer a more direct line of communication with your phone and can solve stubborn recognition problems.
Update Your Phone's Software
Sometimes, a bug in HiOS or Android itself can interfere with USB connectivity. Tecno releases updates to fix these kinds of issues. Make sure your Spark 30 Pro is running the latest software.
Go to Settings > System > System update. Tap "Check for updates." If an update is available, download and install it. It's a good idea to be on Wi-Fi and have your phone charged above 50% before starting. After the update, check if the PC connection works.
Check Your PC's Antivirus or Firewall
Security software on your Windows PC can sometimes block new devices as a safety measure. This isn't super common, but it's worth checking if you're still stuck.
Try temporarily disabling your third-party antivirus or firewall software. Just right-click its icon in the system tray and look for a "disable" option, usually for 10 or 15 minutes. Then, try connecting your phone again. If it works, you'll know the software was the blocker, and you can add an exception for your device in its settings.
Try a Different Computer
This is a great way to figure out where the problem actually is. If you have access to another laptop or desktop, try connecting your Tecno Spark 30 Pro to it.
Remember to select "File Transfer" mode on the phone when you connect. If the phone shows up perfectly on the second computer, then the issue is with your original PC's settings, drivers, or ports. If it doesn't show up on any computer, the problem is almost certainly with the phone's settings, port, or cable.
Reset USB Preferences on Your Phone
Your phone remembers how you connected it last time. If those preferences get corrupted, it can cause problems. Resetting them is safe and won't delete any personal data.
On your Spark 30 Pro, go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap on "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth." On the next screen, you'll also see an option to "Reset USB preferences." Tap that. This clears all default connection settings. Afterward, when you plug your phone into the PC, it will ask you again how you want to connect.
Check for PC System Updates
Just like your phone needs updates, so does Windows. An outdated Windows build can have bugs that affect how it handles USB devices.
On your PC, click the Start menu and go to Settings > Windows Update. Click "Check for updates." Install any important or optional updates related to system or hardware. After the updates are installed and your computer has restarted, try the connection with your Tecno phone one more time.
