A blurry camera on your Samsung Galaxy S25 can ruin a perfect shot. The issue might be with the main lens, the telephoto, or only appear in certain lighting. Before you worry about a hardware repair, there are several software and simple fixes to try first.

Clean the Camera Lenses

Start with the simplest solution. Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to gently wipe all the camera lenses on the back of your phone. Fingerprints, dust, or a smudge from your pocket are the most common causes of a hazy, unfocused photo. Avoid using your shirt or tissues, as they can leave micro-scratches on the lens coating over time.

Remove Your Phone Case

Some phone cases, even well-known brands, can have a camera cutout that's slightly misaligned. This can cause the edge of the case to creep into the frame or create a shadow that affects focus. Take the case off and snap a test photo. Also, make sure you haven't accidentally left a plastic film or a separate camera lens protector on the lenses.

Tap to Focus and Use Focus Enhancer

Open the Camera app and tap directly on your subject on the screen. You'll see a focus box appear. If the camera is focusing on the background, this forces it to lock onto what you want. For close-up shots, look for the Focus Enhancer icon (it looks like a flower) to appear in the corner, which optimizes the camera for macro photography.

Switch Between Camera Lenses

Your S25 has multiple lenses. In the Camera app, tap the tree icon or pinch the screen to switch between the lenses: 0.6x (ultrawide), 1x (main), and 3x (telephoto). If only one lens is consistently blurry, the issue is isolated to that specific sensor, which could mean it needs cleaning or has a hardware fault.

Close and Reopen the Camera App

Swipe up from the bottom and hold to enter the recent apps view, then swipe the Camera app away to close it fully. Reopen it and try focusing again. A temporary glitch in the app can cause the autofocus motors to stick or the image processing to malfunction, resulting in soft images.

Restart Your Galaxy S25

A full restart clears out any temporary software bugs affecting the camera system. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side key for about 10 seconds until the Samsung logo appears. This force restart is often more effective than a standard shutdown.

Check for a Moisture Warning

The S25 is known to sometimes show a false "Moisture detected" warning for the USB-C port, but moisture can also affect the camera. If you've been in a humid environment or moved from cold to warm air, condensation can fog the internal lenses. Let the phone sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. Don't use a hairdryer or put it in rice.

Update Your Phone's Software

Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Samsung frequently releases updates that include camera performance improvements and bug fixes for autofocus issues. An update might already contain a patch for the focusing problem you're experiencing.

Reset the Camera Settings

If you've changed a lot of settings, one might be interfering. Open the Camera app, tap the settings gear icon, and scroll down to Reset settings. This will revert all camera preferences to default without affecting your photos or other phone settings. It's a good way to rule out a misconfigured option.

Clear the Camera App's Cache

Corrupted temporary data can cause all sorts of app problems. Go to Settings > Apps, find and tap Camera, then select Storage. Tap Clear cache. This deletes temporary files and can resolve focusing lag or processing errors without deleting your personal data.
