A blurry camera on your Samsung Galaxy S24 can ruin a perfect shot. The issue might be constant, only happen in low light, or affect just one of the lenses. Before you worry about a hardware problem, work through these practical fixes.
Clean the Camera Lenses
Start with the simplest solution. Grab a soft microfiber cloth and gently wipe the entire camera module on the back of your S24. Fingerprints, dust, and smudges on the lens are the most common cause of hazy, unfocused photos. Avoid using your shirt or tissues, as they can leave lint or even scratch the delicate lens coating.
Remove Your Phone Case
Some cases, particularly bulky or poorly designed ones, can partially cover the camera lenses or create a reflective glare. Take your S24 out of its case and snap a test photo. If the image is suddenly clear, you've found the culprit. Also, make sure you haven't accidentally left a plastic film or a separate camera lens protector on.
Use Tap to Focus
Open the Camera app and tap directly on the subject you want to be sharp. You'll see a focus box appear. The camera's autofocus can sometimes get confused, especially with busy backgrounds. Tapping tells it exactly where to focus. For more control, you can tap and hold to lock both the focus and exposure.
Switch Between Camera Lenses
Your S24 has multiple lenses. If photos from the main 50MP lens are blurry, try switching to the 12MP ultrawide or the 10MP telephoto lens by tapping the tree icon or pinching the screen. If only one lens is consistently bad, the issue is isolated to that specific sensor, which could need cleaning or, less likely, repair.
Force Close the Camera App
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold to enter the recent apps view. Find the Camera app and swipe it away to close it completely. Then, reopen it and try focusing again. A temporary software glitch in the app can cause the autofocus motors to freeze or the image processing to fail.
Restart Your Galaxy S24
A full restart clears out system caches and resets all background processes, including those for the camera. Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Side button together for about 10 seconds until you see the Samsung logo. This force restart often resolves temporary software hiccups affecting camera performance.
Disable Scene Optimizer and Focus Enhancer
Samsung's AI features can sometimes interfere. In the Camera app, tap the magic wand icon to turn off Scene Optimizer. Also, for close-up shots, make sure Focus Enhancer isn't activating unexpectedly; you'll see a little flower icon when it's on. Manually controlling these can give you more predictable focus results.
Check for a Moisture Warning
The S24 is known to sometimes show a false "Moisture detected" warning in the USB port, but condensation can also affect the camera lenses internally. If you've been in a humid environment or moved from cold to warm air, let the phone sit for 15-20 minutes to acclimate. Never try to dry the lenses with heat from a hairdryer.
Update Your Software
Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Samsung frequently releases updates that include camera performance improvements and bug fixes. An issue causing autofocus problems in certain modes may already have a patch waiting for you.
Reset the Camera Settings
If you've changed a lot of settings, one might be causing the problem. Open the Camera app, tap the settings gear icon, and scroll down to Reset settings. This will revert all camera preferences to their defaults without affecting your other data or photos, which can eliminate a misconfigured option.
