The Ring Battery Doorbell Plus resets differently from the wired Ring models. There's no pinhole button or power-cycle trick. You'll need to physically remove the faceplate, find the tiny setup button underneath, and hold it for a full 20 seconds. That's the only factory reset path this device offers.
The fastest way: take off the faceplate (more on that in a second), locate the setup button on the front of the unit, press and hold it for 20 seconds. The front light flashes a few times, then the doorbell reboots. Once it's back, the device is in setup mode and ready to pair fresh.
What a Factory Reset Actually Erases
Resetting the Battery Doorbell Plus wipes the device clean. That means all Wi-Fi credentials, any paired settings, and your video doorbell's configuration are gone. The doorbell essentially becomes the same as when it came out of the box.
What stays on your Ring account is all your saved videos, your Ring Protect plan subscription, and any other Ring devices you own. Those live in the cloud. After you reset and re-add the doorbell through the Ring app, your account data reattaches automatically. You won't lose recordings unless you also delete the device from your account.
Note that the Ring app no longer offers free recording for any video history. You need a Ring Protect plan (subscription) to access recorded clips. The reset doesn't change that.
How to Reset the Ring Battery Doorbell Plus
Start by getting the faceplate off. The Battery Doorbell Plus uses security screws on the bottom edge. You'll need the little screwdriver that came in the box (or a T6 Torx bit). Remove the two screws and slide the faceplate upward. It pops off.
Now look at the front of the doorbell. You'll see a small button labeled Setup near the camera lens. Press and hold that button for a full 20 seconds. The front light ring flashes rapidly during the hold. After about 20 seconds, the doorbell restarts and the light settles into a rotating white pattern. That means it's in setup mode.
Release the button once you see the white spinning light. If you let go too early (before 20 seconds), the doorbell returns to its normal state without resetting. Hold steady.
Reconnecting to the Ring App
Open the Ring app on your phone (iOS 14+ or Android 9+). Tap Set Up a Device in the top-left menu or tap the + icon in the top right. Select Doorbells and then Battery Doorbell Plus.
The app walks you through scanning the QR code on the back of the doorbell (it's behind the faceplate) or entering the device's serial number manually. After that, you pick your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and enter the password. The doorbell connects and downloads any pending firmware updates. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.
One important quirk: the Battery Doorbell Plus only works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router broadcasts a combined 2.4/5 GHz network, your phone might need to be on the 2.4 GHz band during setup for the doorbell to find the network. Some users have had success temporarily disabling the 5 GHz band on their router during initial pairing, then re-enabling it later.
If the 20-Second Hold Doesn't Work
Sometimes the doorbell ignores the setup button if it's mid-update or stuck in a weird state. Try this: remove the battery pack first. On the Battery Doorbell Plus, the battery slides out from the bottom once the faceplate is off. Wait about 30 seconds, then reinsert the battery. Now press and hold the setup button immediately while the device is booting up. Keep holding until you see the spinning white light (this can take up to 30 seconds during a cold boot).
If the doorbell is completely unresponsive, the battery might be dead. Charge it fully before attempting a reset. The battery pack charges separately via a micro-USB cable (included) or you can use a spare battery if you have one. A dead battery won't register any button press at all.
Resetting Through the Ring App (If the Doorbell Is Online)
If the doorbell is still connected to your account and online, you can reset it remotely from the app. In the Ring app, tap Devices at the bottom, select your Battery Doorbell Plus, then tap Device Settings at the top right. Scroll down and tap General Settings, then Remove Device. The app confirms the removal and automatically resets the doorbell to factory defaults.
This method doesn't require the physical button, but it does require the doorbell to be awake and on your network. If the battery is dead or the Wi-Fi is disconnected, you'll need the manual button reset.
Deregistering the Doorbell Before Selling or Giving Away
If you're passing the doorbell to someone else, you should do two things: deregister from your Ring account and perform a factory reset. Deregistering removes the device from your account but leaves the Wi-Fi credentials on the doorbell. A factory reset wipes the Wi-Fi too. Do both so the next owner can set it up cleanly.
To deregister: in the Ring app, tap Devices, tap your doorbell, then tap Device Settings > General Settings > Remove Device. Confirm. Then do the manual 20-second button reset from above.
If you skip the factory reset, the next owner can still pair it to their account after a factory reset, but they'll be able to see your old Wi-Fi network name if they reset it themselves. Better to wipe it yourself first.
