When your Redmi Note 13 Pro doesn't show up on your PC, it stops you from transferring photos, managing files, or doing a backup. This is a common hiccup with Android phones, especially on MIUI, but it's almost always something you can fix yourself.

The connection relies on a few things working together: a good cable, the right software on your PC, and the correct setting on your phone. I'd start by checking the simplest possibilities first, as they're often the solution.

Check Your USB Cable and Port

Grab the 67W USB-C cable that came in the box with your phone. If you're using a different cable, even a good-looking one, it might only be wired for charging and not for data transfer. Try the original cable first.

Also, plug it into different USB ports on your computer. Front panel ports can sometimes be finicky, so try one directly on the back of a desktop or a different port on a laptop. Make sure both ends of the cable are pushed in firmly.

Clean the Phone's USB-C Port

Over time, pocket lint and dust can get packed into the charging port, blocking the connection. Shine a flashlight into the port on your Redmi Note 13 Pro and look for any dark clumps of debris.

If you see something, power the phone off completely. Then, use a dry, soft-bristled toothpick or a plastic dental pick to very gently scrape the gunk out. Avoid using anything metal, like a paperclip, as you could easily damage the delicate pins inside.

Restart Both Your Phone and Computer

A simple restart clears out temporary glitches that can block the connection. First, restart your Windows PC or Mac. Then, restart your Redmi Note 13 Pro.

If the phone is frozen or unresponsive, you can force restart it by pressing and holding the Power button for about 15 seconds. You'll feel it vibrate and see the Redmi logo when it starts back up. Once both devices are fresh, try connecting again.

Select the Correct USB Connection Mode

This is the most common fix for MIUI phones. When you plug in the USB cable, a notification should pop up on your phone's screen. Tap it. You'll see several options like "Charging," "File Transfer," or "Photo Transfer."

You need to select "File Transfer" (sometimes called MTP). If you just leave it on "Charging," your PC won't see the phone's storage at all. If the notification doesn't appear, pull down the notification shade after connecting to see if it's hiding there.

Install the Correct USB Driver on Your PC

Windows might not have the right driver to talk to your Xiaomi phone. The easiest way to fix this is to install a tool called Xiaomi USB Driver. You can find the official installer on the MIUI download page or trusted tech sites.

Run the installer, then restart your computer. After the restart, connect your phone again. Windows should now recognize it properly. On a Mac, drivers are usually handled automatically, so this is primarily a Windows step.

Enable USB Debugging (Developer Options)

This setting allows for a deeper level of communication with your PC. First, you need to unlock Developer Options. Go to Settings > About phone and tap on "MIUI version" seven times quickly. You'll see a message saying you're now a developer.

Go back to the main Settings menu, then into "Additional settings." Find and enter "Developer options." Scroll down and toggle on "USB debugging." A warning will pop up, just tap OK. This often resolves stubborn connection issues.

Update Your Phone's Software

A bug in your current version of MIUI could be causing the problem. Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version. Tap "Check for updates."

If an update is available, download and install it. Make sure your phone is charged above 50% and connected to Wi-Fi first. After the update, which might take 10-15 minutes, try the USB connection again.

Check for PC Operating System Updates

Just like your phone, your computer needs updates too. On Windows 10 or 11, go to Settings > Windows Update and click "Check for updates." Install any available updates, especially optional driver updates.

On a Mac, go to System Settings > General > Software Update. After installing updates, restart your computer and test the connection once more.

Try a Different Computer or Cable

This helps pinpoint where the problem actually is. If you have access to another laptop or desktop, try connecting your Redmi Note 13 Pro to it. If it works on the second computer, the issue is with your original PC's software or USB ports.

If it doesn't work on any computer, the problem is almost certainly with the phone's settings, port, or the cable itself. At this point, you've ruled out a lot.

Reset Network & Bluetooth Settings on Your Phone

This is a stronger step that resets all connectivity, including saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth pairings. It won't delete your photos or apps. Go to Settings > Connection & sharing > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks & Bluetooth.

Tap "Reset settings" and confirm. After the phone resets, you'll need to re-join your Wi-Fi network. Then, attempt the USB connection to your PC again. In my experience, this can clear up deeper system conflicts that affect USB recognition.
