When your POCO X7 Pro won't send texts, it can be incredibly frustrating. You might see messages stuck on "Sending," get an error notification, or have them fail without any warning. The issue can be related to your signal, the phone's software, or your carrier's settings.
Start With a Quick Restart
Before trying anything complex, perform a force restart. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or more until you feel the phone vibrate and see the POCO logo appear. This simple step clears temporary software glitches in HyperOS 2 that can block the messaging app from working correctly.
Check Your Mobile Data and Signal
Text messages (SMS) need a cellular signal, while multimedia messages (MMS) require mobile data to be active. First, look at your signal bars in the status bar. If they're low or absent, move to a different location. Then, swipe down from the top to open the Quick Settings panel and make sure mobile data is turned on. You can also toggle Airplane mode on for 10 seconds and then off again to force the modem to reconnect to the network.
Verify Your Default Messaging App
HyperOS allows you to change your default SMS app. If you've installed a third-party messaging app, it might not be set correctly. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Tap on "SMS app" and make sure your preferred app, like Google Messages or the stock MIUI Messages app, is selected. I'd start with this check if your texts fail after installing a new app.
Clear the Messaging App's Cache
A corrupted cache can prevent messages from sending. Open Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Find your messaging app in the list (e.g., "Messages") and tap on it. Select Storage usage and then tap Clear cache. This deletes temporary files without touching your message history. Restart the app and try sending a message again.
Check for Network or Carrier Settings Updates
Your carrier periodically sends configuration updates. To check manually, go to Settings > About phone > SIM status & IMEI information. Sometimes, an update prompt will appear here. You can also try resetting your network settings. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Reset phone > Reset network settings. You'll need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords, but it often resolves MMS sending problems.
Review Your APN Settings
Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings are a common cause of MMS failure. These settings tell your phone how to connect to your carrier's data network. Go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks. Select your active SIM card, then tap Access Point Names (APN). You should see a list with at least one APN configured. Do not edit these unless you are sure. The safest fix is to contact your carrier and ask them to send you the correct APN settings via an automatic configuration message.
Ensure the Recipient Isn't Blocked
If messages fail to send to one specific contact, you may have blocked them. Open your Phone app, tap the three-dot menu, and go to Blocked numbers. Check if the number is listed there. You can also check within your messaging app's settings for a block list. Removing the number will allow messages to go through.
Update Your Phone's Software
HyperOS 2 updates can include fixes for connectivity and messaging bugs. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version. Tap on "Check for updates." If an update is available, install it. It's a good idea to connect to Wi-Fi and ensure your 6000mAh battery has at least 50% charge before starting the update process.
Try a Different Messaging App
To rule out a problem with your current app, temporarily install a different one like Google Messages from the Play Store. Set it as your default SMS app and see if you can send texts. If the new app works, the issue is with your original app. You can then try clearing its data (warning: this may delete your message history) or stick with the new one.
Contact Your Mobile Carrier
If all else fails, the problem might be on your carrier's end. There could be a network outage in your area, a provisioning issue with your account, or SMS/MMS services might be suspended. Give them a call. They can check your account status, resend network configuration settings, and confirm if there are any known service disruptions affecting your POCO X7 Pro.
