A POCO F6 with an unresponsive touchscreen can be incredibly frustrating. The screen might be stuck on a game, a social media app, or just the home screen, refusing to register any taps or swipes. In most cases, this is a temporary software glitch that you can resolve yourself without losing any photos or messages.
Force Restart Your POCO F6
This is almost always the first thing you should try. Simply press and hold the power button on the right side of the phone for at least 15 seconds. Keep holding it even if you don't see anything happen right away. You'll feel a vibration and see the POCO logo appear as the phone reboots. This forces a clean restart of the system software without deleting any of your personal data.
Check for Overheating
The POCO F6's powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip can get warm during intense gaming sessions. If the phone feels hot to the touch, it may have entered a thermal protection mode that can cause the screen to become sluggish or unresponsive. Move it to a cooler spot, take it out of its case to help it breathe, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before trying to use it again. I'd avoid using the 90W fast charger while it's this hot.
Charge the Phone
A completely drained battery can sometimes cause the phone to act frozen. Plug it in using the included 90W USB-C charger and cable, and give it a solid 10-minute charge. The screen might remain black at first, but once it has a little juice, the charging indicator should appear. If it was truly out of power, it will need enough energy to boot up properly.
Close the Problem App
If the touchscreen works everywhere except in one specific app, that app is likely the culprit. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold to bring up the recent apps menu. Find the frozen app and swipe it all the way up to close it. Then, try reopening it. If a particular app freezes repeatedly, head to the Google Play Store to check for an update, or clear its cache in Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Storage & cache.
Clean the Screen and Your Hands
It sounds simple, but moisture, grease, or a screen protector that's lifting at the edges can interfere with the touch sensors. Give the screen a good clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Also, make sure your fingers are dry. Some cheaper tempered glass protectors can cause touch issues, so try removing it temporarily to see if that's the problem.
Free Up Storage Space
When your phone's storage is nearly full, the operating system struggles to create the temporary files it needs to run smoothly, which can lead to freezing. If you can get into Settings, go to Settings > About phone > Storage to see what's using space. Try to keep at least 5-10 GB free. You can offload videos to a computer or cloud service and clear app caches to quickly reclaim space.
Update Your Software
Bugs in the Android 14-based HyperOS can cause touchscreen problems, and Xiaomi frequently releases updates with fixes. After restarting your phone, go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version and tap "Check for updates." Install any available update. A stable internet connection is required, so consider connecting to Wi-Fi if the download is large.
Boot into Safe Mode
Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps you've installed. If the touchscreen works perfectly in Safe Mode, you know a downloaded app is causing the conflict. To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button until the power menu appears, then long-press the "Power off" option on your screen. Tap "OK" when prompted to reboot to Safe Mode. You'll see "Safe Mode" in the bottom corner.
Reset All Settings
If the freezing persists, a deeper system setting might be corrupted. You can reset these without touching your photos or apps. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Erase all data (factory reset). Before you tap "Erase all data," look for and select Reset all settings. This will revert your Wi-Fi passwords, wallpaper, and sound settings back to default, but it often clears up persistent software glitches.
