When your Nothing Phone (2) won't charge wirelessly, it's often a simple alignment issue, a case problem, or a temporary software hiccup. The good news is you can usually get it working again with a few quick checks.
Center Your Phone on the Charger
Wireless charging needs the coils inside your phone and the pad to line up almost perfectly. Place your Phone (2) dead center on the charging pad. You should feel a slight vibration and see the charging indicator pop up on your screen. Being off by even a little bit can break the connection.
If your charger has a guide or a specific sweet spot, use it. The Phone (2) supports the standard Qi protocol, so it should work with most pads, but precise placement is key.
Take the Case Off
Your case is the most common culprit. Thick cases, especially ones with metal plates, magnetic rings, or built-in card holders, will block the wireless signal. Pop the case off and try charging the bare phone.
If it works without the case, you'll need a slimmer, wireless-charging-compatible one. The Phone (2)'s unique Glyph Interface on the back means some cases might be thicker around the edges, so keep that in mind.
Verify Your Charger is Working
Make sure your wireless charger is actually getting power. Check that it's plugged in firmly and look for any indicator lights. Try a different wall outlet or USB port.
Remember, your Phone (2) can take up to 15W wirelessly. Some cheaper or older chargers might not deliver enough power. I'd recommend using the adapter that came with your wireless pad or a quality USB-PD adapter rated for at least 20W.
Restart Your Phone (2)
A quick reboot can clear out temporary software glitches that mess with charging. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel it vibrate and the screen goes black. The phone will restart on its own.
Once it's back on, place it on the charger again. This is my go-to first step for any odd behavior, and it often does the trick.
Clean the Phone and Charger
Dust, lint, or any grime on the back of your phone or the surface of the charger can create a barrier. Give the back of your Phone (2), especially around the glass area, a good wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
Do the same for the charging pad. A clean connection is essential for efficient wireless power transfer.
Check for a Software Update
Head to Settings > System > System update to see if there's a new version of Nothing OS waiting. Software updates frequently include fixes for power management and hardware communication bugs.
Keeping your Phone (2) updated is one of the best ways to prevent these kinds of issues. It ensures the software that controls the charging coil is running the latest, most stable code.
Let Your Phone Cool Down
Wireless charging generates some heat, and if your phone is already warm from use, it might stop charging to protect the battery. This can happen if you're gaming or using the camera a lot right before placing it on the pad.
The Snapdragon chip in the Phone (2) is powerful but can get warm under heavy loads. If the back feels hot, let it sit for a few minutes off the charger to cool down before trying again.
Reset Your Network & Settings
If you're still stuck, a settings reset can help. Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Tap Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. This won't erase your personal data like photos or messages.
It resets all your network-related configurations, which can sometimes interfere with low-level hardware functions like charging. After the reset, you'll just need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices.
Test With a Different Charger
This is the best way to figure out where the problem is. Try your Phone (2) on a different, known-working Qi wireless charger. If it works, then your original charging pad is likely faulty.
If your phone still refuses to charge on any wireless pad, the issue might be with the phone's internal hardware. Before assuming the worst, double-check that you're using a charger that supports the standard Qi specification, as the Phone (2) doesn't use proprietary charging tech.
