Xbox opened a test of free ad-supported game streaming for Xbox Insiders on July 23, 2026. During the test period, Insiders with an Xbox account can stream games they own for free with ads.
Sessions carry a one hour limit across supported devices and regions. The free streaming path stays limited to titles players already own, plus free-to-play games in the selection.
Xbox cloud gaming otherwise still requires a Game Pass subscription, so the ad test lets Insiders without Game Pass stream library games they already hold.
Xbox Wire states ads will play before sessions begin. Variety confirmed the ads come from globally recognizable brands and match the markets where Xbox Insiders view them.
Beginning July 23, 2026, eligible Insiders can try the experience on a selection of owned games that includes Forza Horizon 6 and 007 First Light, or through free-to-play titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Genshin Impact, and War Thunder. More than 1,800 games in the Xbox Store support cloud game streaming, yet the Insider ad test does not open that full catalog.
Access stays restricted to games the user already owns or that are free-to-play.
Players without a console and without a Game Pass subscription can still use the ad-supported path to stream library games or Xbox Store free-to-play titles on handheld, PC, or the Xbox app on TV. For many players, devices they already own now support streaming games with Xbox.
