Samsung Electronics convened streaming industry leaders at CES 2026 to outline how free ad-supported television (FAST) is reshaping television's future. The "FAST Forward" panel at The Wynn in Las Vegas on January 6 brought together executives from Samsung TV Plus, NBCUniversal, and digital creator studio Smosh to address subscription fatigue and evolving viewer habits.

Samsung TV Plus now serves more than 88 million monthly active users across over 3,500 ad-supported channels in 30 countries. The platform reaches over 630 million active Samsung devices globally, positioning FAST as a core streaming ecosystem component rather than a niche alternative.

"The TV experience today can often feel like too much work for the viewer," said Salek Brodsky, SVP and Global Head of Samsung TV Plus. "Our goal is to simplify television again and combine linear discovery with a modern, connected experience that feels effortless and valuable."

Panelists emphasized hybrid distribution models where FAST complements rather than replaces subscription services. NBCUniversal's Bruce Casino noted that content appearing across multiple platforms creates incremental value without cannibalization. "FAST doesn't replace traditional distribution, it extends it," Casino said.

Digital creators are emerging as legitimate television studios through FAST channels. Sketch comedy collective Smosh launched a Samsung TV Plus channel to reach broader audiences while elevating production quality. "Partnering with Samsung TV Plus allowed us to invest in the future of our brand," said Smosh CEO Alessandra Catanese.

Live programming and interactive experiences are transforming television from passive viewing to active participation. Features like synchronized premieres and real-time audience engagement create shared moments that drive connection and belonging.

The panel concluded that television's future will be defined by flexibility, cultural connection, and participatory experiences. Samsung's focus remains on delivering value for viewers, opportunities for creators, and scale for advertisers as streaming continues evolving through 2026.
