Google appears to be reversing its existing Watch Unlock flow with a new Pixel-side option, according to Android Authority, which found code strings for a “Phone to Watch Unlock” feature inside Google’s Connected Phone & Watch services app.
Those strings describe a setup that would automatically unlock a paired Pixel Watch when you unlock the connected Pixel phone. Promotional copy frames the benefit as skipping a watch PIN or pattern and using the already unlocked phone instead, with prompts such as “Automatically unlock your watch?” and a setup page labeled “Unlock your watch with this phone.”
The reverse path looks to need a one-time setup, including entering the watch’s current PIN or pattern before the phone can unlock it. After that, status messages such as “Unlocking your watch” and “Watch unlocked” indicate the watch unlocks automatically once the phone is authenticated.
One string also suggests the trusted relationship may transfer from one Pixel Watch to another without rebuilding the full setup.
Findings in the Connected Phone & Watch services app, which also powers other Pixel pairing tools, point to the capability staying exclusive to Pixel devices rather than shipping as a generic Wear OS feature. The feature is not live yet, and timing for any rollout remains unclear.
