Apple is working toward turning its upcoming non-AR smart glasses into another health and fitness platform, according to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter as reported by 9to5Mac, though those features likely will not debut with the first-generation model expected in the coming year.
Apple had already explored Vision Pro as a health platform, including a Fitness+ version that would let users follow workout videos, track movement, and close their rings on the headset, with body-tracking analysis meant to set the experience apart. That effort never launched because of technological hurdles and the headset’s weight.
The company is revisiting a similar idea for smart glasses and headsets, which would need a different approach because the glasses lack displays. Future smart glasses are expected to include sensors that can collect information and track how users move, supporting health and fitness experiences, and Apple reportedly sees the form factor as more practical for those uses.
