Nintendo has added the GameCube classic Super Mario Sunshine to the Nintendo Classics library for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members. The game is now available to play for subscribers using a Nintendo Switch 2 system, according to the official Nintendo announcement.
The update brings the 2002 platformer to the subscription service as part of the GameCube's Nintendo Classics lineup. Nintendo positions the addition as a way for members to create or recreate retro memories, with access to a wide variety of classic titles from supported systems.
Super Mario Sunshine drops Mario, Peach, and a group of Toads onto Isle Delfino, a sun-drenched island resort where someone has made a mess of the entire island. The inhabitants blame Mario, and the falsely accused plumber promises to clean up the island and clear his name while recovering the vanished energy source known as Shine Sprites.
Players use the trusty FLUDD on Mario's back for water-based action, from spraying enemies to flying through the air with powerful streams of water.
Access requires more than just an active Expansion Pack tier. Subscribers need a Nintendo Switch 2 system to play the game, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership sold separately plus a Nintendo Account are required for online features.
Internet access is also necessary for those online functions.
Nintendo rates the title with content descriptors for blood, language, suggestive themes, and violence. The service carries some important boundaries as well: the membership is not available in all countries, and memberships auto-renew after the initial term at the then-current price unless canceled.
For players who missed the GameCube original, this marks a straightforward way to revisit the title through the subscription rather than hunting down original hardware and discs. The retro catalog continues to expand as Nintendo works through its back catalog for the Switch 2 generation.
