Microsoft's fourth Azure data center region in India is now live, anchored by a Hyderabad facility in the country's south that will deliver cloud and AI services to customers. The launch is part of a broader $20.5 billion investment Microsoft is making in India to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence footprint.
The new India South Central facility is Microsoft's largest data center in the country, and it brings the company's cloud regions in India to four. The expansion adds to existing Azure centers in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai, positioning Microsoft as the country's largest cloud-computing provider.
Early customers already signed on include Adani Group and HDFC Bank, with demand driven by India's fast-growing AI market. Microsoft also operates two additional data centers in the country through its partnership with Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Jio.
The Hyderabad region gives Indian enterprises and developers local access to Azure's cloud services, reducing reliance on infrastructure elsewhere. Microsoft said the site will begin providing service from the Hyderabad region, extending its cloud reach deeper into southern India as competition for AI workloads intensifies among major cloud providers.
