Bloomberg's Mark Gurman is pushing back against claims that Apple scrapped its all-glass anniversary iPhone, saying the 20th-anniversary redesign remains on track for a 2027 release. The report directly refutes recent assertions from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee that Apple had abandoned plans for the device.
The original all-glass concept from Apple's Design Studio was reportedly dropped early because a chassis built primarily from two glass panels wasn't suitable for mass production. Apple is now said to be pursuing an evolution of that idea, using a metal frame in the center with front and back glass panels attached at curved edges.
Two prototypes, identified as V73 and V74, are believed to be successors to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Gurman suggested the cancellation confusion may stem from timing, since new iPhones enter validation about a year before mass production and supply chain checks could have drawn the wrong conclusions. Bloomberg expects the iPhone 20 Pro redesign to be unveiled in September 2027, though whether it carries the iPhone XX or iPhone 19 Pro name remains unclear.
