Apple's iPhone 20 will reportedly feature a four-edge curved display and completely borderless screen when it launches in 2027. The 20th anniversary model could skip the iPhone 19 naming entirely to mark two decades since the original iPhone debuted in 2007.
The Information's report outlines a radical redesign with curved glass wrapping around all four edges of the device. This four-sided curvature would create a seamless, bezel-less appearance unlike any previous iPhone design.
Apple aims to eliminate all visible front-facing components, according to multiple sources. The selfie camera, Face ID sensors, and other components would move beneath the OLED display, creating a truly uninterrupted screen surface.
LG Display is reportedly considering a $300 million investment to overhaul production lines for these futuristic screens. The company may dedicate 10 entire production lines specifically to meet Apple's requirements for the iPhone 20's advanced display technology.
Samsung, Apple's primary OLED supplier, faces similar pressure to upgrade facilities. Both manufacturers began developing fully immersive display prototypes as early as 2023 at Apple's request, though the engineering challenges have proven exceptionally complex.
The iPhone 18 Pro models will serve as testing grounds for key technologies ahead of the iPhone 20 launch. Under-display Face ID is expected to debut on the 2026 Pro models, moving the selfie camera to a small punch-hole in the top-left corner.
Apple's first foldable iPhone could arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September 2026. The foldable device reportedly features a 5.3-inch outer display and 7.7-inch inner screen, with pricing estimated around $2,400.
Technical challenges for the iPhone 20 include thinning the protective TFE layer that shields OLED components from moisture. This delicate balance between achieving the desired curvature and maintaining durability has complicated development timelines.
Research firm Omdia suggests Apple may skip the iPhone 19 naming to emphasize the anniversary's significance. The company's roadmap reportedly includes at least seven new iPhone models across 2026 and 2027, including the foldable device and iPhone Air 2.
The iPhone 20 represents Apple's most ambitious design overhaul since the iPhone X eliminated the home button in 2017. If successful, the four-edge curved display could redefine smartphone aesthetics for the next decade of mobile devices.
