When your LG QNED TV has a picture but no sound, it's usually a simple setting or connection issue. The problem could be with the internal speakers, an HDMI cable, or the audio output format. Let's run through the most effective fixes to get your sound back.

Check Your Remote and Volume

First, press the volume up button on your LG Magic Remote. Make sure the mute icon isn't displayed on the screen. If you're using multiple remotes, like one for a soundbar or streaming device, check those as well, as they can control different audio outputs.

Verify the Audio Output

Press the settings button on your remote and navigate to All Settings > Sound > Sound Out. This is the most important setting to check. If you want to use the TV's own speakers, make sure Internal TV Speaker is selected. If you have a soundbar or receiver connected, ensure the correct output like HDMI ARC or Optical is chosen.

Perform a Power Cycle

Unplug your QNED TV from the wall outlet. Wait for a full 60 seconds to let any residual power drain from the capacitors. This gives the TV's internal audio processor a complete reset. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the sound returns.

Inspect HDMI Connections

If the sound is missing from a specific device like a game console or streaming box, the HDMI cable is the first suspect. Unplug the HDMI cable from both the TV and the device, then firmly reconnect it. Try using a different HDMI port on your TV, as some ports may have specific functions. A different, known-working HDMI cable can also rule out a faulty wire.

Configure HDMI ARC/eARC Correctly

For soundbars connected via HDMI, it must be plugged into the TV's HDMI port labeled HDMI (ARC) or eARC/ARC. On most LG TVs, this is HDMI 2. Then, go to All Settings > Connection > Device Connection Settings and ensure SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) is turned on. This allows the TV and soundbar to communicate volume and power commands properly.

Change the Digital Sound Format

In your sound settings, find the Digital Sound Out option. Try changing this format. I'd start with PCM, as it's the most compatible. If that doesn't work, cycle through Auto or Pass Through. Some older audio systems can't decode modern formats like Dolby Atmos from streaming apps, which results in silence.

Test a Different App or Source

If the sound is only gone in Netflix or Disney+, the issue is likely with that specific app or content. Try playing a different show or movie within the same app. Then, test a different source entirely, like live TV or a different HDMI device. This tells you if the problem is universal or isolated.

Test the Internal TV Speakers

Go to Sound > Sound Out and switch to Internal TV Speaker. Disconnect any external soundbars or receivers first. If you get sound this way, you've confirmed the TV's audio hardware is fine and the issue lies in the external audio setup or connection.

Update Your TV's Software

LG regularly releases firmware updates that fix audio bugs, especially related to HDMI ARC and app compatibility. Go to All Settings > Support > Software Update and select Check for Updates. If an update is available, let it install completely, as this resolves many unexplained sound issues.

Reset the Sound Settings

If you've tried everything and sound is still missing, reset the audio configurations. Navigate to All Settings > Support > Reset to Initial Settings. You can choose to reset only the sound settings, which will revert all audio options to their factory defaults without affecting your picture modes or installed apps.
