Screen flickering on your Huawei Pura 70 Pro is a jarring problem, making the beautiful OLED display flash, pulse, or show erratic lines. It can pop up from a simple software hiccup in EMUI 14.2 or point to a deeper hardware concern. Let's get it sorted.
Force Restart Your Phone
This is the universal first step for any weird glitch. Just press and hold the Power button on the right side for about 10 seconds. Keep holding until you see the Huawei logo appear, then let go. This forces a clean reboot and clears out any temporary display driver errors that might be causing the flicker.
Disable Auto-Brightness
The ambient light sensor on the Pura 70 Pro is quite sensitive. If it's malfunctioning or confused, it can cause the screen to flicker as it rapidly tries to adjust. Head into Settings > Display & Brightness and toggle off Auto. Manually set your brightness to a comfortable level and see if the flickering settles down.
Turn Off Eye Comfort Mode
This feature, which reduces blue light, can sometimes interact poorly with certain apps or system animations. To check if it's the culprit, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Eye Comfort and turn it off. You can also try switching its schedule from "Custom" to "Sunset to sunrise" to see if that makes a difference.
Update Your System Software
Huawei regularly pushes EMUI updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements. A flickering screen is a common issue that gets addressed. Open Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap "Check for updates." If an update is available, install it. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and has a good charge, preferably using the included 100W SuperCharge adapter.
Close Background Apps
An app you recently installed or updated might be misbehaving and causing display corruption. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold to enter the recent apps view. Swipe each app window up to close it. After clearing them all, use your phone normally for a bit. If the flickering stops, you can reopen apps one by one to identify the problematic one.
Given the Pura 70 Pro's unique ecosystem without Google Play Services, apps from third-party stores or sideloaded APKs are a more common source of instability. I'd pay extra attention to any non-AppGallery apps you've installed recently.
Boot Into Safe Mode
Safe mode temporarily disables all third-party apps, loading only the core Huawei system. If the flickering stops in safe mode, you know for sure a downloaded app is causing it. To enter safe mode, press and hold the power button until the "Power off" option appears. Then, press and hold the "Power off" text on screen until a prompt to reboot to safe mode appears. Tap "OK."
Your phone will restart with "Safe mode" shown in the bottom corner. Test the display. To exit, just restart your phone normally.
Reset All Settings
This is a deeper fix that won't erase your photos or apps. It resets all your system preferences, like display settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and notification configurations, back to factory defaults. Go to Settings > System & updates > Reset > Reset all settings. Enter your lock screen password if prompted and confirm. After the phone reboots, you'll need to reconfigure your preferences, but it often resolves persistent software conflicts.
Check for Physical or Environmental Issues
Look closely at the screen for any new cracks, even hairline ones, or spots where the display looks discolored. A drop can loosen the internal display connector. Also, try using the phone away from strong electromagnetic sources, like certain wireless chargers or industrial equipment. While rare, interference can affect the display.
It's worth noting the Kirin 9010 chipset, while capable, can run warm under heavy load. Extreme, sustained heat from gaming or using the 80W wireless charger could potentially stress display components. Let the phone cool down and see if the flickering reduces.
Perform a Factory Reset
This is the last resort software fix. It will erase everything on your phone, so ensure you have a complete backup first. You can back up to your Huawei ID cloud or to a computer. Once backed up, go to Settings > System & updates > Reset > Factory data reset. Follow the prompts to erase all data.
After the reset, set up the phone as new without restoring your backup immediately. If the flickering is gone on a fresh system, the issue was software-related. If the flickering persists even on a clean, out-of-the-box software state, the problem is almost certainly hardware and will require service.
