When the flashlight on your Huawei Pura 70 Pro is grayed out, it's a surprisingly common hiccup. The icon in the Quick Settings panel might be dimmed and unresponsive, leaving you in the dark. Let's walk through the steps to get it shining again.

Close the Camera App

The camera and flashlight share the same LED hardware. If the Camera app is actively using it, the flashlight will be locked out. Swipe up from the bottom to enter the recent apps view and swipe the Camera app away to fully close it. I've found this instantly resolves the grayed-out icon in most cases.

Force Restart Your Phone

This is the universal fix for many EMUI glitches. Simply press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo appear. This force restart clears the temporary software state that might be blocking the flashlight function.

Check Power Saving Modes

While standard power-saving modes shouldn't disable the flashlight, the ultra-aggressive settings might. Go to Settings > Battery and ensure any power-saving mode is turned off. Also, if your battery is critically low (under 5%), the system may disable non-essential features to conserve the last bit of power.

Let Your Phone Cool Down

The Kirin 9010 chip can get warm during intensive use. If your Pura 70 Pro overheats, EMUI will automatically disable the flashlight and camera flash to prevent further temperature rise. If the back feels hot to the touch, stop using it and let it sit for 10-15 minutes in a cooler spot.

Use Celia Voice Assistant

Try activating the flashlight with your voice. Say "Hey Celia, turn on the flashlight". If Celia can turn it on but the Quick Settings tile remains grayed out, it points to a minor interface bug. You can use this method to toggle the light off and on, which sometimes resets the system's control.

Adjust the Flashlight Brightness

On EMUI, you might not be tapping the right spot. In the Quick Settings panel, press and hold the flashlight icon instead of just tapping it. A small pop-up menu should appear, allowing you to adjust the brightness level. If it was accidentally set to the lowest setting, it might seem like it's not working in a bright room.

Reset All Settings

For a deeper software reset that won't touch your personal data, go to Settings > System and updates > Reset > Reset all settings. This will revert all your preferences, like Wi-Fi passwords and wallpaper, but it can resolve stubborn system control issues, including a malfunctioning flashlight toggle.

Update Your EMUI Software

Huawei releases updates that often include bug fixes for system features. Navigate to Settings > System and updates > Software update and tap on 'Check for updates'. Installing the latest available version can patch the specific glitch causing your flashlight to be unavailable.

Test the Camera Flash

Open the Camera app and switch to a photo mode, then try to take a picture with the flash forced on. If the camera flash also fails to fire, the LED hardware itself may be faulty. Given the Pura 70 Pro's 2024 release, this is rare but possible if the phone has suffered physical damage or a manufacturing defect.
